His reply was stating Penny's stats. He wasn't putting down Gallatin or Maddox...we know who won that game...

I agree Penny is a good player and probably be player of the year in the 8th.

I totally agree. I think these people haven't been to enough of Penny's games in AAU leagues, and are limited to the Gallatin games they see. Penny is a whole other calibur of player.

 

I guess since we are a 1a school we don't know what goes on the 8th region or get out much. Give me a break!

I don't think it is crazy at all. Both mean about as much as the other to their respective teams. Does Penny have some physical abilities that Maddox might not have? Sure. Maddox is able to do things with the ball that Penny can't do. Both are very nice players and I think a comparison is very fair.

CJ Penny, Trent Maddox and their ball clubs are great but the ultimate sleeper of the region is none other than the Trimble County Raiders. Coach Lauster has been there for 4 years and has had some down years but coming off his best season with a 10-15 record when his team should have been 15-10 easily but lost close matches will be a great threat.

 

They lost 3 seniors which none started and the whole entire starting line up is returning which are now all seniors. The seinors are 6'5 Christian Courtney, 6'2 Cody Kidwell, 6'0 Cory Turner, 6'0 Aaron Law, and 5'10 Larry Sullivan Jr. Coming off the bench with alot more experience will be junior 6'2 Josh Edington, Sophomore 5'10 Zach Adair and newcomer 6'2 Justin Webb.

 

Over the summer the Raiders record was 16-6! All those loses came from very stiff competiton. Only two of them were lose by more than 15, one lost by more than 10 and 3 loses by less than 10.

I don't know if Trimble is a legitimate dark horse or not, but I've been extremely impressed with Lauster's work. And - pound for pound - Law is one of the toughest players in the 8th Region.

 

I'll be broadcasting three regular season Trimble County games this year and will be looking forward to seeing what the Raiders have...I'm old enough to remember when the Blue and Gold were 8th Region contenders every year...

I think that you all do not see the potential in Shelton that I do.

I know this...the coaches in the 8th are legimately concerned about Owen, and not primarily because of the big kid (although he's a definite threat!). The Rebels have more talent than just the one kid...

Not sure. Anderson will definitely be in the mix - perhaps as the favorite - with the talent they have coming back to surround Penny, and a tremendous coach in Glen Drury. But the word I hear coming out of Lawrenceburg is that the team may not have much in the way of depth... We'll see.

 

Of course, at times, depth can be over-rated - but with teams such as Gallatin County, North Oldham, and Shelby County looking to run, run, run, a thin team will have to be able to dictate tempo and play fundamentally good defense...

The 8th is wide open to anyone, Gallatin proved that last year!

One could argue the point the Gallatin County's team last year may have been the best ever for them. They will be tough this year, but not like last season. I would not count them out, because Coach Jones is about as good as they get in high school, at least in small schools. I am certain that he will find a way to get them playing hard before tournament time. Go Cats!

Owen County has potential to go to rupp this year with two veteran guards and possibly the best big man in the region

No shot. They will probably go to the regional tournament, but they will be the worst team there. They are good for an 'A' team. They are well coached and are disciplined. They have no chance to go to Rupp Arena.

1st point. Owen made the Regional tournament last year and lost to the eventual state semi-finalist by 3 points. They lost 3 seniors(?) but return just about all of their scoring.(?) If they were to make it to the tournament again, I wouldn't say they'd be the worst team there.

 

2nd point. Any team that is well coached and disciplined can't be counted out in any sport. Owen is definitely both of these. And yes, Owen is back in class A, but you can only play 5 at a time.

 

The "little" guys of the 31st district have shown to be scrappers and hard "outs" the last two years and I'd expect nothing different this year.
