I thought about putting Grant in there, but I really did not know how many kids they had coming back. I am not certain I would put them ahead of Owen or not especially if they(owen) learn to play together instead of as individuals. This should be a fun season to watch unfold.

Owen literally played their worst game of the year at Grant last year. No excuses, Grant won the game. Also, I need to check back on your remembrance of the game at Owen. I could be wrong, but I don't think your statement is accurate.

Yeah, that is correct. Grant's starter Thompson sprained his ankle in the 3rd so Kinmon pulled everyone. But I think the 8th is wide OPEN this year!

The X factor for Grant's district is confidence. Grant has a talented senior class but those seniors have never had an outstanding season. SK on the other hand has less talent this year then the previour years, but they expect to win. Walton has a confidence about them as well. Grant needs to start the season on a positive note in order to be succesful. It will be difficult for Grant to be successful if they are not successful early in the season.

 

On the flip side, Williamstown has a shot to win a few regional games this year. They won't have a great record but they could win ten or eleven games and possibly beat the Henry's, Walton's, or other smaller schools in the area.

I agree 100%. Confidence is the Key factor for that district. Expecting to win determines so many games before they even start.

Ron Kinmon is one of the fine, unsung coaches in the 8th Region. I enjoy watching him coach his teams...he's a class act in a region with several top-notch coaches. I didn't get to see Grant last year, but from what you guys are saying, I'm looking forward to seeing them this year.

I agree that Grant County has the potential to win some games this year. However, i couldn't disagree with you more on your opinion about Coach Kinmon. He spends way more time complaining to the officials than he does actually coaching his team. I'm not sure I would use the phrase "class act" as a description for Coach Kinmon.

I don't want to get into a protracted discussion of personalities...all I know is that in my own personal contacts with Coach K, he's always been very gracious, willing to accommodate my (broadcasting) requests, etc. I don't see him more than a few games a year... Yeah, he complains too much, but I've seen a lot worse...

You keep referring to team chemistry and playing together in regards to Owen County. I didn't notice a lack of unity last year. What are you speaking of?

Especially when most of the teams they play will not have a kid over 6'3". Some of the fans for OC that I have talked to over the summer have indicated this is not the case.

You must be dreaming.:sleep: They will be a good team but will struggle to win the region. All in all though, they should win the All A region this year.

I know this...the coaches in the 8th are legimately concerned about Owen, and not primarily because of the big kid (although he's a definite threat!). The Rebels have more talent than just the one kid...

Owen has 3 players well over 6'3". Might be a tough match-up for some teams. You definately can not leave the guards open either.
