I can't argue with you on that one, SK was in the hole, bad decision to throw the ball deep. A punt would have been much safer, a simple handoff to Simpson could go for 20.

I liked Chad at QB, he played with some great moxy.

I couldn't help but think about the poll earlier in the week about the best RB in NKY. Simpson is simply amazing, he could fall out of bed and get five yards. I know I won't miss a game that he plays in, like I've said before, any play can turn into a highlight. I would have trouble picking his top 5 runs for this season. All I can say is relish him while he's around, you won't see that type of talent for a while. I know I've been around the program for quite some time and no one is close, Daniel Morrison was a great RB but he would play a distant 2nd fiddle to Simpson. I believe he has 20 TDs for the season total, if you take out the '93 team, and the '08 team he probably is close to the total TDs for the decade of the '90s.

I wonder if it does help. I proposed this question in the Johnson Central/Hazard thread as well. Does playing far superior teams make your team better or does it just leave you going away saying "wow...they were good"?

This calls two things that I have brought up before into question. Is Russell in good enough condition this year? I know some individual players are, but is the team as a whole? And also, does the fact that most of their players play both ways including special teams at some point become a liability?

 

When a team like Russell gives up a deflating 80 yard TD run, it's not like they can turn to the offense and ask them to step it up. The offense is essentially the same guys who just got smoked for the 80 yard TD! They come out, fumble on the next series, and the game quickly spins out of control.

 

I have always thought that it takes awfully good players to play all 48 minutes.

:sssh: You're going to upset some people in Ft. Thomas if you claim anyone other than a Highlands player is the best RB in NKY. (It doesn't matter if you're right, either).

Congrats to SK on the win…generally the Red Devils are not an easy out. Tough loss for Russell though. Mason Co looms large right now for district alignment with both the Royals and Devils undefeated in district play.

 

I hope the injury report(s) for Russell involve only bumps and bruises…Mason will provide a formidable challenge

Playing quality teams help, IMO. Russell was competitive with SK last year – they are not “far” superior.

Russell’s starters are not used to playing a whole game due to the easy district schedule that they play. It appears that they can play with a good team for about a half and then get whipped in the 3rd quarter. If Russell is going to continue playing a lot of weak teams (because they have to in their district) then they need a better conditioning program outside of games. It’s late in the season to be so winded in the 3rd quarter.

He may have as many defensive highlights as offensive ones and is probably as fun to watch on defense as he is on offense. Man he hits hard. SK isn't accustomed to that level of play and it is really neat to watch. Good pic of him at http://www.skpioneers.blogspot.com

 

 

Overall, I thought SK hit particularly hard last night on defense causing the fumbles which was another key.

That's a good blog covering Simon Kenton sports. Any blog that gives this kind of detailed reporting is pretty good:

 

"On SK’s last TD, Lawrence made a nice run and dove out of bounds after gaining the first down. A Russell would be tackler sneered at him for not taking the hit. Lawrence just calmly said; “First down man” and went back to the huddle."
