Jake Peavy to the Braves?

Featured Replies

Nothing is really far in, but Peavy has let it be known that he would welcome the chance to pitch close to home (Alabama) and be able to play for the Atlanta Braves.

Braves GM, Frank Wren, has been in contact with Padres GM Kevin Towers about a blockbuster trade that would bring Peavy to the Braves in exchange for at least 3 Braves prospects. The players are unknown but one would believe that Tommy Hanson or Jason Heyward would have to be included as well as a SS product if the Padres are wanting rid of Kalihil Greene.

As a Braves fan I'd love to see this trade. If the Braves can get Hudson healthy and get Peavy, Atlanta might have the best 1-2 punch in the national league, maybe the majors.

Let's do it. The Braves need some pitching. They also need some hitting though.

If they wanted to get good, they would have kept Tex. and signed Peavy.

They have to do more than sign/trade for a pitcher this off-season before I will take the new ownership seriously.

Sign and trade? Peavy is under contract until 2012 I believe.

If they trade for Peavy then that frees up more money to be used to sign players the Braves need.

If they trade for Peavy then they could be in the running for Garland, Lowe, Dempster, maybe even Sabathia.

Then after they sign one more starter they can go after hitting. Burrell would be a good choice, I would be against a Dunn signing but they need an offensive upgrade from LF.

We'll wait and see what happens.

If the Braves could get Peavy and Greene, they could easily move Escobar to third base and Chipper to first base. That would solidify the infield defense and help the young pitching staff.

This thread puts a HUGE smile on my face!

I feel confident with Kotchman's defense at first, let alone Chipper's Gold Glove at third. I understand the need to protect Chipper's health by moving him to first, but with his history of leg injuries (in particular muscle injuries and injuries simpyl sustained by running) first base would still not be a walk in the park when you are having to stretch out to make the catch and beat the runner.

This is a big time deal for the Barves though with the ability for Atlanta to keep considerable money to pursue another starting arm.

Pat Burrell seems like a logical choice to fill their other need, power in the outfield. Also, Burrell has destroyed the Braves since he has been with Philly so it may pay just to get him off the Phillies lineup. The problem is, with every game Philly wins his cost goes up more and more.

If the Braves can get a healthy Hudson back, Peavy, another big time arm, as well as bring back Jurrjens I would feel confident in the rotation. Imagine the following:

1. Peavy

2. Hudson

3. Lowe

4. Jurrjens

5. Reyes/Campillo (Both showed flashes of being solid starters, but got worked to death and had to serve as a #2 pitcher)

Jake Peavy has a full no trade clause.

Where has he said he'd welcome a trade to Atlanta?

FWIW, I could see him as a Brave.

Chipper is a lot of things, but he's not a Gold Glove third baseman. Kotchman's bat leaves a little to be desired as a first baseman.

The best thing the Braves can do is whatever they can to keep Chipper healthy ... and that, in my opinion, is a move to first base.

He is from 'Bama and on record saying he will go to the Braves.

Hudson is out till August after having tommy john surgery.
