October 22, 200817 yr Author * Joel Sherman of the New York Post talked to several executives. They expect Peavy will be traded to the Braves for Tommy Hanson, Jordan Schafer, and one of Kelly Johnson/Yunel Escobar. This scenario becomes more plausible to me if Johnson/Escobar is replaced with a lesser player. Buster Olney also talked to execs who envision a Hanson/Schafer/Johnson package. * Chipper Jones likes the idea of the Braves acquiring Peavy, and also would welcome A.J. Burnett as a teammate. * Axelrod agrees that the Braves are the frontrunner and the Astros may not have the goods for Peavy. He downplayed Peavy's friendship with Roy Oswalt as a factor in his decision. I would be good with a Hanson/Schafer/Johnson package for Peavy. Would be great, and wouldn't really hurt the Braves FA plans and gives them some room to work with.
October 22, 200817 yr Let's hope the Braves land him. How long is left on his current contract?According to Cot's Baseball Contracts, Peavy is owed $60 million through 2012, which includes a very pricey ($22M, $4M buyout) option for 2013.
October 22, 200817 yr Author Let's hope the Braves land him. How long is left on his current contract? 2009: $8 million club option w/$500,000 buyout, 2010: $15 million, 2011: $16 million, 2012: $17 million, 2013: $22 million club option w/$4 million buyout So he's under control till 2012 but a team option for 2013.
November 14, 200817 yr Author It appears as if the trade talks between the Braves and Padres are almost dead...Kevin Towers has stalled on trade offers by the Braves, who wanted a trade completed before this Friday, so the trade talks are probably off. Braves will be going after free agent starters now.
November 15, 200817 yr That's too bad. Any idea who the Braves will try to sign the most? How much money are they willing to offer one of the free agents?
November 15, 200817 yr Author They are offering Dempster, Lowe, Burnett for sure...not sure of the others they are offering.
