Gillispie knows NBA beckons for Patterson

Featured Replies

It's not that Billy Gillispie is trying to run his best player out of town.

But if sophomore power forward Patrick Patterson is ready to move on to the NBA after this season, the University of Kentucky coach isn't about to stand in the way.

"I hope (Patterson) has a real easy decision to make after the season's over," Gillispie said yesterday at UK's media day. "We want him here forever, but I hope he has a no-brainer decision after the season's over."

That attitude will do wonders for recruiting.

No doubt...

I played softball until mid night last night so I am a little slow today. Was this suppose to be sarcastic or sincere?

It's pretty simple, really.

If Kentucky is going to have a big year, we need Patrick Patterson to have a big year.

If Patrick Patterson has a big year, he's a top 5 draft pick.

If he's a top 5 draft pick, the only person stopping Patrick from going is his mama.

Sincere I believe.

98's right. Coach is showing he's not going to try and convince a kid to stay when it's the right time to go. I think it's admirable.

Don't you love these late night softball games ? With the cool air, the ball has been flying out of the park around here.

Doesn't matter if it is sarcastic or sincere (I'll vote for sincere), because it's dead on.

Like it or not, college players (especially since the NBA Age limit) are using college as a stepping stone to the NBA. The fact that Gillispie acknowledges and even embraces that will allow Kentucky to get top flight recruits again.

It is something that Tubby was reluctant to do. And it's another reason why I think Billy Clyde has done a masterful job in recruiting. He seems to realize that you need a few 1 or 2 year guys mixed in with a couple of 4-year players. The 1-2 year guys can ruin your future when they bolt for the NBA, unless you have experienced players who are talented and ready to take over (which is what Darius Miller will do...).

Definitely sincere.

His Momma said he WILL graduate college before going pro. A few million dollars in her face might make her change her mind though.

I think he has team goals as well as personal goals he wants to achieve. If he reaches those goals he will leave and if not maybe next year he will.:thumb:

Definitely sincere.

Ok, that's what I thought but after last night I'm a little off.

BCG is a master recruiter.
