Why don't those people do something to help themselves out instead of wanting the government to take care of them?

Still not an answer to my question regarding WHY they have specific legislation that exempts them from paying their full share of taxes. I don't, and I didn't make record profits this year.

 

BTW unless you are set up in a fund that pays dividends you are not actually getting money from EXXON unless the price of the stock goes up. Mine does not, so I do not realize $$ from the stock I own, unless I sell it at a profit. Also, the stock price is not DIRECTLY related to the profits. Met with my guy today and and my funds are down from last year even though the company has realized record profits, why is that?

If you think corporations in this country don't pay their fair share not much can be said.

What Obama is talking about is nothing short of theft. That's not helping your neighbor out, that's taking money away from someone who worked hard and giving it to someone that doesn't even pay taxes. That should be a crime. All this sort of thing does is keep people down, it doesn't teach them to work hard and earn their way. That's what Democrats want, people feeling like they need big daddy government to take care of them. All it will do is keep them poor and punish others who work hard. And people wonder why so many companies are sending their work overseas.

 

And the charge that there are ANY working people that don't pay taxes is flat out wrong and you know it. The minimum tax on wages is 15.3 percent, which happens to be higher than the capital gains tax. That is a crime.

So then the question to you would be how is this LEGISLATION going to be changed, by one person such as Obama? It's legislation, so it was passed by congress which consists of more than just one person, or one party, in fact it's made up of a great deal of different people. So why're you acting as though this legislation that you question so much was put into power by one person, or one group? When in fact several people voted on it for it to be passed.

Most republicans want limited government, just give us a means to take care of ourselves and we will; such as roads, utilities, emergency medical services, and some other local government services.

 

Where as democrats feel as though the government should provide as much as possible for the people, that to do so is the truest form of patriotism(I thought I was going to punch my best friend in the face last weekend because of this exact "debate", well actually I thought he was gonna punch me but yea), and that when the government is neglecting to do these duties, which the people feel they're capable of doing and should be doing, that it's an injustice. A broken system.

 

I just feel the more programs you have, the more that's also being lost, whether it's with corruption, or unnecessary $ being spent, but I'm sorry, give us all what we need to get by, and let's actually try to take care of ourselves rather than sit back and complain about how the government isn't doing enough when things are going your way.

A company usually doesn't get tax breaks for how many kids they have, or whether or not they have kids in school etc etc(like someone who's receiving a minimum tax on wages).... I bet it really ticks you off when they get tax breaks for donating to charity to doesn't it.

That was true until the current leadership came on board. Bush has been anything but a traditional conservative Republican when it comes to domestic issues and you see a lot of GOP support on the current bailouts from Congress for Wall Street.

When did we start talking about Bush? Pretty sure the person I was commenting on hadn't said a thing about Bush, nor does anything I say refer to him, or his administration, nor do I think they really have anything to do with(in regards to my previous post) where the differences lie between the two parties idea's on the current "issues" at hand.

Some should.............but not everyone can.

 

I often feel the way you do about people helping themselves, but then I see the families in my area struggling to feed their families who come to our church food bank and I get a dose of reality.

Good thing we have an on-the-ball watchdog media that can ferret out posers and totally obfuscate the meat and potatoes of what Obama slipped up and said. He almost let the American public in on his true agenda. He can't really do that until after the election.

He slipped up and said . . . we want to be sure that all the people who are unable to afford to buy the company at this point are getting a break so that they can survive in this economy. Horrible, terrible stuff.

Why do you think it is okay for Exxon Mobile to have government funded tax breaks - legislation designed so that they don't have to pay their fully alloted amount in taxes? Don't tell me they need that money to create jobs, that is hooey. They have had record profits this year as a company. I know that they only make 8% on a gallon of gas or something like that, but they are one of a few companies that control a resource that is NEEDED by the American people, and every time the price of gas goes up their 8% results in a higher yield.

 

They did not re-invest their PROFITS in R&D, they were record PROFITS - even PALIN charged them a windfall tax in Alaska.

 

I agree with Joe Biden - if the infrastructure of the country is crumbling - then those with more need to step up and say "sure we will help out" we know that the people are struggling so we will pay higher taxes until we don't need to anymore. At that point we can cut them again (the country will elect a republican when it is time to cut the capital gains tax again) and things will be returned to their natural UNbalanced way.

 

So yeah, spread that money around so that 28 million more kids can have healthcare in this country - so crumbling schools (like the one I work in) can be renovated for the low income kids that attend here. Spread the money around so that the unemployment insurance doesn't run out.
