Quiet kid. He looks menacing on the mound. From sixty feet away, on top of the hill he looks every bit of 8 feet tall. Randy Johnson comes to mind. He would have been a regular on BGP last year if it weren't for a kid named Cody.

Basballislife I totally agree with you. Nute has so much upside going toward the college game that I truly think you will see him play somewhere at the D1 level! He has speed, a better than average arm, has great bat control, and he loves playing.

 

I dare to say that one person most seem to forget is Darner. He has a gun for a arm and while he doesn't have the speed of Nutini he is not slow by any means. If Krumps moves him back to RF it will help him get some college offers, as I think that is his natural position!

 

BTW of the three young men mentioned above I would want Darner up at the plate if I were down one in the last inning with two outs and a man on second. For whatever reason the kid just lives for moments like these!

d1's are allowed 11 1/2 scholarships. They have a 35 man roster limit, and only 7 of those 35 can be non-scholarship players. Everyone else who is on scholarship has to be on 25% baseball or higher

I knew it was something like that. So it is extremely rare to get a full scholarship, the majority are partials.

 

At UK, I guess that Maile got a full ride? Did Farris also?

They currently have 32 players on their roster.

If they have that same number next year the make up of scholarship would be something like this, possibly:

7 walk-ons, leaving 25 to be on some type of scholarship.

2 full rides(Maile, Farris)?

23 players dividing up the remaining 9.5 scholarships. A little less than half a scholly each.

I don't know about Maile, but don't believe Farris got a full ride (could be wrong). These days about the only full rides given out by D1 schools go to pitchers who throw in the 90's. And there just ain't that many of them out there, unless you read BGP, of course, where almost every decent high school pitcher throws mid-80's to low-90's :lol:.

Funny, I had actually typed that out originally, but then deleted the "lefty" part at the last second. The Lex Cath kid (Maronde) came to mind as I was typing my post.

Maile and Farris are neither on full rides. As has been stated, they are few and far between - especially when considering that academic money, state grants, etc make up a good amount of the difference. Only an extremely good player (talking high draft pick out of HS) with very borderline academics will approach the 80%+ range. Almost all players in D1 baseball who are on "full rides" are not getting 100% baseball money.

Well, to be exact, it's actually 11.78 for D1. D2 is allowed only 9 and NAIA allows 12. Baseball was really impacted a few years back by the Title IX requirements. Almost all of their scholarships are split up so that coaches have more to offer. The difference can sometimes be made up in academic scholarship money, grants, etc.., giving it the appearance of being a "full" athletic scholarship when in fact it was a combination.
