The 40 hour work week would be a vacation for many achievers who drive to and from work in the dark, work weekends and don't go home Friday with a six pack and a lottery ticket. They live responsibly within their means, don't spend on fluff and lifestyle, they don't max out their credit cards, don't party and fritter away their earnings in the eternal quest for more bling. They slave and skimp and save and build a business they can pass on to their children they have raised to honor the virtues of diligence and hard work, and along comes a politician who says he wants to spread the wealth.

I don't care if the person spewing that message is male, female, white, black, tan, yellow, red, blue, or green with orange and purple stripes, it is unAmerican. And there is no one on this board who can convince me it is Biblical with absolutely no accountability required of the recipients.

Obama's promise to give tax "cuts" to "taxpayers" who pay no federal income taxes will be just the beginning of the end of one of Bill Clinton's few notable achievements - welfare reform (signing it into law - not thinking of it). Clinton should be worried about his legacy because whoever undoes the damage that Obama wants to do will get credit for welfare reform.

So what is his plan for acquiring the ownership of the means of production? Capital? Private property?

Okay, so we soak the rich… they take what’s left of their wealth and squirrel it away. They quit risking and investing in ideas and companies that grow because so much more of their profits will be confiscated that the risk is no longer worth it. They too must economize to preserve their nest egg, so they buy fewer of the expensive cars, boats, aircraft, homes, etc. produced in this country providing millions of jobs to middle class Americans. More American companies pull up roots and move their operations overseas. Jobs disappear, the economy goes to hell in a hand-basket, but hey, at least everyone is equally miserable. Yeah, that’s great leadership, and exactly where true "equality" will lead us.

 

So then the government steps in and buys up key industries, just like we're doing with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac... and what certain politicians propose we do with healthcare. Before long, in a bloodless coup, our country goes from being the shining beacon of freedom and liberty where any man willing to work, and learn and keep trying has the potential to achieve almost anything he can set his mind upon, and we become a national of individuals truly and fully serving the government that once served us.

 

We need a president that is going to help lead more individuals achieve self-reliance, not a leader championing the establishment of more dependents.

 

What I hear from Obama is, “Don’t worry, your heroes in government will provide for you. We’ll get those stingy rich folks, and give you more of what they’ve earned.” What kind of losers are we turning into that we would fall for this lie?

Never in history has spreading the wealth lifted the bottom up. It's always, always pulled the top down.

You don't have to wait on Obama for that dream to come true.

 

Go to the nearest gas station and wait for some "parent" to come in with 15 of their kids. They will proceed to pick up some milk, a six pack of beer, a loaf of bread and a carton of the cigs. Oh yeah, they'll buy 50 or 100 dollars in lottery tickets. They aren't hard to spot. It won't take more than 10 minutes I promise.

 

Just make sure you don't pick up any extra hours at work or heaven forbid, work and go to school at the same time. The government frowns upon that and you will be punished.

Obama really started to stumble over what to say, and when he said that he wanted to 'spread the wealth around' to the people who are behind you, it seemed like the plumber was stunned. The plumber didn't want to be punished for being successful and wants the ability to expand his business.

Did he say that the tax increases would impact him as a small business person trying to grow his business, create jobs and hire more people? That must have been a lie because Obama said it won't impact small business.

I keep reading variations of this same basic argument on here in criticisms of Obama's tax plan, but the facts just don't support it. The Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 heavily benefitted the super rich (i.e. top 1% of income earners). However, job creation during Bush's presidency has lagged far behind the cumulative total during the same time period of the Clinton administration (see graph below, and official Bureau of Labor Statistics data here). So even with much lower taxes for the super wealthy, job creation during Bush's time in office has been about 1/4 of what it was when the rich were being "soaked" before the Bush tax cuts. How do you square that major league disconnect with your claim that taxing the rich kills jobs? A similar comparison could be made showing how real wages have stagnated since the Bush tax cuts took effect as compared to previous periods under higher tax rates for the wealthy. And the economic data does not show that the tax cuts have helped the overall economy (GDP growth rate has been lower since the tax cuts than during any comparable period in the 1990s). The tax cuts (coupled with reckless spending) also exploded the deficit and national debt to record levels...
