What KY boys basketball coach has the most to prove this year? Please give your opinion and supporting stats if you know them. I'd think coach Highfield in Ludlow probably needs to win some. I know he is the AD so I'm not sure how they would get rid of him, but if his team doesn't do better this year he wil take even more flack than he already is. Which he shouldn't for last year he had a team of no talent he did the best he could.

Boone County's Head Coach should be on the hot seat. He has failed to get a district tourney win with better talent than anyone in the district for the last three years.

Let's face it, you are only as good as the tools that you are given. PC had a great run because they had great players. A D1 player on your roster will give you a good run, but for a school like PC, those players are a rare breed. PC will only be as good as the talent that they have and should only be expected to be good during cycles, like the last cycle that they had. You are still a few years away from the next possitive run.

Maybe the talent isn't as good as some in the Boone Co schooling systems think?

I wasn't meaning it as a slam on the schooling system. I was more asking it as a question than saying it as a statement.

I think they will have a good season this year and next. They have some pretty good talent.

He had ample talent last year!! He really didn't have a bad Senior class. There seemed to be positions filled by the wrong player. Some players were kept on the floor despite their unwillingness to play as a team and pass the ball instead of taking ridiculous shots. Any team that played them last year would tell you there were two players in particular who wanted a one man show. The two games I was at, it seemed as though his ear was being "bended" by too many parents. He left in one of his guards who I'm not sure if he was having a bad game....but he got his pocket picked 4 straight times down the court and was equally ineffective defensively. TAKE HIM OUT. I didn't see that kid the next time we played, so I don't know if he was an issue or not. Maybe it would benefit coach Highfield to make those kind of calls despite the disapproval of the parents. If I remember correctly his dad was a coach sometime ago for Ludlow. He was decent. I'm sure coach Highfield seeks his advice. How many years has he been coaching? It takes a couple of seasons to develop a coaching style and to adapt to the talent pool you are working with.

I think the biggest problem is a lot of times schools don't give a coach enough time to develop the talent they're given. If they don't win within the first 2-3 years, they're automatically considered a bad coach who can't win.

 

It all starts with the younger kids in the system because those are going to be the ones who have more time to develop within a system.
