Coach Simms has done a fine job. The boys that are there now will give it their best shot. They showed the District last year what they are capable of doing & I think they will do fine this year. As an old saying I heard "the future is the future & now is now".

Ludlow parents are really hard on coaches. They ALWAYS know what the better play would've been the sad part is heck I can say you should've defended that kid different after he just dropped 30 ya know? I do agree that he lets it affect his coaching. The best thing he can do is what former head coach Joe Beard did and actually still does as principal. Let them talk, yell, and boo. Do whats best and just don't give a darn. (I'm sure Beard would've used another word) They'll get over it or the parents will take their kids and go which gets the problem out of your hair. Trust me you pull a couple kids or sit 'em a game or two and they WILL respond.

 

I'm not knocking the parents (because I'm one) however, some do have a tendency to see their child with rose colored glasses on. Maybe he should let the parents know that if they persist in getting in his face that they are welcomed to watch the game through the gym doors. Don't think for one second a kid is not embarrassed when the parent(s) acts like a fool. It would be nice to see him get a little more passionate with his coaching techniques. I'm not a coach, but I've been to what seems to be a million games and have seen many coaching styles. IMO the ones who show passion on the side lines get the most results. I'm not saying you have to be a horses backside, but if the kids see your enthusiasm I feel it tends to generate it on the court.

I'd say that Pendleton Co. needs to win some games this year. Since their good run a few years ago, they've kind of been a pushover.

 

Coaching had nothing to do with the difference on a front line of 6' 8" and playing DI who almost knocked off Duke, 6'5" and 6'5" compared to last year when they had, what one player basically over 6'0"

Rick Shumate of Beechwood needs to win some games. Fresh off coach of the year I'd say expectations are pretty high. I would say the Ryle coach and Boone coach have enough talent to win the region so I'd put both of them on the hot seat.

Coaching is a thankless job. If you win, it's the players and if you lose, it's your fault and the vultures circle, part of the job. Striving to excel and win, is/should be the goal of any Coach but circumstances, injuries and other things happen which prevent it.

 

Who's on the hot seat, every Coach with pride and desire, for his/her program to constantly stay competitive and make the Sweet 16.

Win the region? No way either team comes close to beating Holmes! Even with that said, Ryle just doesn't have that much talent to work with.

Yes, but all of those hours, headaches, and time away from the family is all worth it when they get that coaching paycheck...........:cry:

Boone and Ryle are not in a position to beat Holmes this year. Holmes is without a doubt the most talented team in the 9th region.

 

Boone's coach should/is on the hotseat because of his prior 3 years of service. You can't compete with Holmes if you never make it out of your district tournament.

 

I am also not sold that Ryle has had a ton of talent over the past couple of years. I think they have had decent talent pool but not enough to think that they should have been competing for a regional championship.

I like Coach Sims and think he will end up rebuilding that program to what it was when Coach Biggs left. If a coach is not a yeller and a screamer, it will do him no good to yell and scream to get his kids to play hard, probably only make them roll their eyes. That being said, coaches do have to have the trust of their players, that they are teaching them the correct way to play the game. Then if the coaches have kids with ability, victories will follow. You will not win without talent, depth helps also!! That will allow you to sit a kid who might not being doing what you are asking and let them watch a player who is just as competent.

 

I wish all the coaches great success, because this is high school basketball and it shouldn't all be about the wins and losses!!! Unfortunately in to many places it is!!!
