I still would take Bishop for my team.

 

His stats are impressive as well, but I just feel Englemon's are more consistent. Englemon has 4 games of over 100 yards whereas Bishop only has 2.

 

Don't get me wrong, Bishop is a great player. But Bishop has only really had 2 big games; Conner and Boone.

His Tates Creek and Mason Cty. game stats aren't impressive? Interesting. And let's also keep in mind that Englemon has one of the top QB's in NKY throwing to him on a pass-first oriented team. Bishop is not so fortunate.

Agreed! What Byron Leftwich-like heart that kid showed to drag himself up and down that field to lead his team to a great finish. I almost thought Ryle was coming back there at the end until that tipped ball got picked. What a great opportunity to get to see that game on FSN. I wish they would do that more often. Not that I would stay home from an HHS game, but it's nice to see some of the local kids playing on the big screen. Great game by both teams, but I don't think that this'll be the last time you 2 meet this year. Playoffs???

Neither of them are as fast or good as previous receivers from NKY. What did Englemon do to be perceived as the best receiver in NKY?

Not taking anything away from him but I think the DBs from Campbell County did a pretty good job cover him. He ONLY had 41 yards against Campbell.

That's true he's had four that I've seen called back, and I've only seen them play three times.

Bishop is also the only kid who really gets thrown to from Campbell as well. I also wouldn't call Conner a pass first team. I'd say it's 40-60 pass to run.

I agree. I know in the Ryle game he had a long catch called back and there have been other TD catches this year of over 50 yards where they've been called back because of penalties.

I caught some of it and Ryle's play-calling was very poor and they looked terrible in the first half. It was surprising that Ryle actually led 14-3 early in the 4th quarter as Conner won the battle in the trenches all night. Ryle looked pretty quick at the beginning of the season vs. Highlands and very slow last night.

They were the better team last night. Hard to claim otherwise when they won the game. :thumb:. But in general, I would say these teams are pretty equally matched. Let's face it - Conner's defense has been pretty porous this year so far. Not sure if their defense improved that much in a week. Their offense is indeed impressive, though to Ryle's credit they did hold them to their lowest output of the season. I'd love to see a rematch - and at this point that appears very possible.

AGREED!!! I wasn't able to make it to the game since it was on a Thurs but caught it on TV. Looked like Coach Warner may have gotten smart the 2nd half and told that offensive coordinator to take a break. The entire 1st half was painful to watch. I think the players could probably call those plays more effectively.

I don't understand it. Ryle's varsity play calling is terrible, but the JV play calling is good. Ryle JV handed Conner a decisive 34 to 0 loss and scored on some really good pass and run plays. The varsity play calling does not adapt well to the changes in the game. It is like they have five plays that they repeat no matter what the situation.

I think inconsistent would be a better word. Their defense has played very good at times. The Simon Kenton game they were outstanding in the second half.

Bishop was in the secondary to help shut him down
