NKY Warriors 14U 42

Not sure if any of you guys were around for the Warriors/Flash game but it was a dandy. The Flash are a quick little bunch who play man-man the entire game no matter what the game situation is. Mark Ogle does a great job with those guys. The Warriors were too much on the boards and Nathan Grosser is establishing himself as a premier Big Fella in NKY. At 6'1 he just has such great instincts and is a true "Windex Man" on the boards. He clears himself very well and has a soft touch around the basket.

 

Michael Beuter had a fabulous game ending with 15 pts. The Warriors roster is solid 1-10 and several kids played well off the bench. Donovan McCoy hit a huge shot off the glass and was fouled. He nailed the FT and put the Warriors up for good. Beuter iced it with 2 big FT's to put em up 6.

 

The Flash kept themselves in the game nailing numerous 3pointers while NKY Warriors packed in a 2-3 zone. The Warriors only pressed 1-2 minutes the entire game which was surprising but did a great job of breaking the Flash 3rd qtr press. Warriors go to 5-0 and still havent had a team practice in over a month.

 

Refereeing left a lot to be desired. Double bonus with 3 min left in 1st half was quite ridiculous IMO.

The WP 7th grade actually lost at the buzzer due to a foul that was committed and the Knicks kid made both shots.

The one good thing about the refs there is that they are overall bad, you always know what you're going to get.

Our assistant coach got a Technical early in the game just for saying "that is ridiculous". It was a bad call and he knew it but didnt like being told that. Many times during timeouts after horrible calls you would see the refs conferring at halfcourt talking about the previous bad call, I guess offering each other moral support for being bad. LOL

 

Oh well, its not like we dont know what were getting into like you said and it is better than BCI games.

I saw the game. Both teams played very physical/out of control and I thought the ref's did a good job at keeping it under control. If they didn't make the calls it would have been a football game. You can't fault them. They tried to allow the kids to get into a flow but that was impossibe due to the roughness of both teams. From my prespective, the teams could have been in the double bonus earlier. Again, I think the zebras did a good job.

As in high school games the assistant is to stay seated and not say anything directed toward the officials. For many at SOAS it doesn't seem like they understand that. Therefore the technical was warranted. Also, how do you know he knew it was a bad call?

AAU plays by KHSAA rules and the assistant coach is not to be making any comments about the officiating. If he made that comment, it sounds like the ref's did a good job. The official who made the call (again, a good call) did not stick the coach, it was his partner. Refs do confer to discuss what occurred and so they know how to proceed. If the ref's are talking to each other that shows good communication and game management. The game was won and lost by the players not the officials.

$25 per game. Underpaid to put up with some of the coaches who are Huggins want-a-be's.

Yes, but meanwhile behind me in a girls game there were 2 assistant coaches standing and yelling the entire game. I thought assistants were to stay seated. It was cheap and they need to get thicker skin. Was it the technically correct call I guess it was.

 

 

I will disagree with you here as well. I have seen every team out there in 14U play and If you think there is a team much better than both of those undefeated teams then lets hear it. If anything, the parity is great out there this season. There are 7-8 teams that all could beat one another. I will agree with you that the kids do commit the fouls and should take most of the blame but it doesnt mean they have to be called each and every time.

My bad but they certainly know what they are getting into when they accept the assignments.

BCI officials were actually very good this weekend in both games I watched on Sunday.. I was impressed.

On this we can agree:thumb:! Also, not saying they are not good teams, I just didn't think either played particularly well last night as was indicated by the score. I too have seen every team on numerous occassions.

I made an observation about the 3yrs with no calls, that wasnt an opinion.

 

The ref could have tuned out the comment from the seated coach.

 

I would rather see them actually call a tighter game to be quite honest. Once again when I made the statement about the bonus being so early it was an observation and not a complaint.

 

The reason I think they should call them closer is because too many kids want to hang on kids because they get beat off the dribble and too many kids want to hand check. This will teach them to move their feet and actually play defense.

 

Nathan Grosser took 2 charges last night for the Warriors. The 2nd one coming with 20 seconds left and Nussbaum driving on the baseline down 2. That was pivotal in changing the possession. Some say questionable but I say because he was showing all night that his intent was to get to the basket by going through people they made the right call. I like games where they actually call fouls that are clearly fouls.
