I wonder how they pick the people who attend this and how the questions are screened.

They said these people were picked by Gallup as undecided voters. They all submitted questions and Brokaw picked the questions he wanted asked. He supposedly picked 14 from the people attending and 6 more from over 6 million questions submitted by email.
