October 2, 200818 yr I thought I'd never send a text message EVER!! I thought it was dumb to send a message rather than just pick up the phone and call. Well, 1000 text messages later I don't feel that way anymore. What really bothers me now is people having conversations in public that everyone around can hear. Just text it back to them, I don't need to hear this!!! My phone now is programed to have all my work emails, and personal email sent to it. All my phone calls, phone messages, text messages, and PIN's are sent to my phone. It's the most simple thing ever. Where people are having to "log on" I'm already there. I return emails, text messages, and phone messages during my travel days. Don't pass judgement until you really give it a try. Phone conversations in public are just annoying to everyone around no matter how softly you try and talk. You can answer your messages when you want. Texting is the way to go. Make phone calls while in your car, with a bluetooth of course. Keep you hands on the wheel......................!
October 2, 200818 yr I refuse to use the "language" when texting and can't stand when people text me that way...Speaking as a borderline "official old person," I have to say that I do the same thing. It may take longer; but I can't stand not using proper spelling and punctuation--even in text messages.

I have auto text though which spells out the word when I type two or three letters.
October 2, 200818 yr The same could be said for cell phones in general. I hate them too. The thought that we have to stay connected to everyone at our fingertips 24/7 is something I can't embrace. I miss the days when you could just be at the movies, in church, doing your grocery shopping or even in the bathroom and you would be isolated and free of molestation from the rest of the world. Now we don't have any places like that. Come to think of it, I hate answering machines too, and I think this all started with them. Try looking for the silver lining and enjoying life; and don't sweat the small stuff.

October 2, 200818 yr I have that too, but it drives me crazy. Too often, it gets the word wrong or doesn't know the word you're looking for. You can fix that, it may take you a little while to do so. Go to your auto spell and edit your letters typed to come up certian words. I changed about 30 of mine the rest do OK.
October 2, 200818 yr True, but it is still more invasive than email because it comes directly to your phone and it notifies you of such. But it isn't MY texting that I think is becoming a scourge. Like I said, I have probably only received 5-6 texts in my life. It is the collective use of that medium, often at inappropriate times, in inappropriate places, and using horrible English and grammar, that is the biggest problem. There used to be a time when people would expect it would take some time to get something accomplished. These days, people expect that when they send you an e-mail, that they'll get a response right back...and if they don't, they get really poopy when they feel they've waited too long. Literally, I've gotten e-mails from people who e-mailed me a half an hour prior to the follow up. People can't wait for anything. For work, I have e-mail, voice mail and a pager, and they have my personal cell-phone number and home number as well. I can't go anywhere that they do not expect they would have a right to expect to be able to reach me. It sure takes the "fun" out of being off work. :creepy:

October 2, 200818 yr That's why I bought a phone with a full keyboard. My new one does have the full keyboard on the screen. But I usually use the traditional keypad because the letter/numbers are bigger.
October 2, 200818 yr And just so you know...I get alot of crap done because of my cell phone and texting.
October 2, 200818 yr And just so you know...I get alot of crap done because of my cell phone and texting. I think of text messages as electronic Post-it notes. It lets you send a brief message without having to inturrupt the receiver, and without having to go through all the customary pleasentries of a phone call.
