September 30, 200818 yr The inevitable became reality Tuesday when Lane Kiffin was fired by Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis without pay via the telephone, according to team sources. Tom Cable, the team's offensive line coach, was emerging as the leading candidate to replace Kiffin, a source said. Cable was among three coaches interviewed by Davis on Monday night; the others were offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and special consultant Paul Hackett. Davis is expected to have a press conference later Tuesday to explain his decision to dismiss Kiffin. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3617977

September 30, 200818 yr Fire Lewis and hire Kiffin The Bengals wouldn't field a winner with Lambeau coaching as long as Mikey still runs the show...
September 30, 200818 yr Oakland is such a joke job. With that said, Kiffin new the agreement and culture he was going in to. He has handled things poorly as well, imo.
September 30, 200818 yr Offense. I don't know much about him. Could he be someone who can kickstart Cincy's offense?

September 30, 200818 yr Is it possible to handle things well in Oakland? It is all relative to each situation. When Steinbrenner goes to the papers blasting the managers of the Yankees, it was/is expected and part of the deal. You do not try to trade shots or show him up. Not necessarily fair, but true.
September 30, 200818 yr I heard on the radio that ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the always-classy Al Davis is going to fight having to honor the remainder of the contract, meaning that unless Kiffin files suit to force the issue, he will be out of work and without pay with a third child on the way... again, classy move, Al.

I just heard that also. He should have to. I don't completely agree or disagree with the fire, it has good points on both sides. But firing him should have to honor the contract. I probably don't agree more with the fire than agreeing. The big factor that would come into play if I was doing the firing was "who is my replacement?"

While I'm sure he's not hurting for money, it is a bad move by Davis IMO. He owes the man that money...
