Game 163 Thoughts

Featured Replies

With the Twins playing the "play-in game" tonight against the Pale Hose, what are your thoughts about game 163? I have heard differing opinions, from "they use tie-breakers in other sports, so why not use the head-to-head season series as a tie-breaker" to "there's nothing more exciting than a one-game winner take all play-in game" to "Tampa is licking their chops while Minnesota and Chicago burn through their arms".

Anyone have a strong opinion one way or another?

I love one-game playoffs. The excitement. The atmosphere. Win or go home. I went to the Reds/Mets one-game playoff several years ago, and there was nothing better, even though the Reds lost.

They should use head to head as a tie breaker and be done with this.

MLB makes everybody sit thru 162, not all exciting games, at least this will have some drama. I am glad they are playing this game.

I like the play in game because it really shows who the better team is to win.

Speaking as a Twins fan, who would be benefitting if season series was used as a tiebreaker, I like the one-game playoff. That said, I hate that they used a coin flip to decide where the game is played. The Twins won the season series; to my thinking, the game should be in Minneapolis. But I can also smell my own bias, so I can understand why they might to things the way they do.

Win Twins!

I agree. I like the one-game playoff, but the site should be determined by head-to-head competition. If the series is tied, then resort to a coin flip. This game should be played in Minnesota.

There's a compromise - still play #163, but let the season series decide home field.

They should use head to head as a tie breaker and be done with this.

:thumb::thumb: I agree, Minnesota won the series between the two 10-8. Minnesota should go and should have gone when the season ended....no playoff. Head to head over a season is imo the fair way to decide it.

As for tonights game ...I am pulling for the Twins.

I like the play in game because it really shows who the better team is to win.

I would think that 18 games between the two over a season would deterimine that much better. Minnesota won 10 games to the ChiSox 8 head to head over the season, the Twins should move on to the ALDS. JMO.

Being a White Sox and experiencing all the ups and downs of this season, I have been "on edge" for quite some time.

Both teams had their chances to put the other away and couldn't get it done.

You would think the White Sox have the advantage of being at home, but Danks has struggled against the Twins lineup and is he going on three days rest. You add the struggles the Sox bullpen has had for the last couple months and this has high scoring game all over it.

I almost had a heart attack when the Sox won last night, I can only imagine how I'm going to react tonight, win or lose. As much as I hate the Twins, I have the utmost respect for their organization and how they go about their business.

In one of our threads, I think I picked the Twins to be in the World Series but I would like to see Griffey, get a chance to play for the ring.

For the record, the White Sox announcer Ken "Hawk" Harrleson, is one of my favorites.

You and I, just have different tastes and nothing wrong, with liking your team. His HR call, will put a smile on your face, even if you're rooting for the other team.

I can enjoy a game, regardless of the announcers.
