September 24, 200818 yr I understand this firing is about 5 years overdue, but what good does it do to fire Millen mid-season? Typically, I would agree with you, but in this case, Matt Millen has been so bad, they needed to get rid of him. The team can't go anywhere but up with a new GM and the sooner that regime starts, the better off they'll be. Making the move now will give them some time to interview and find the right guy and it will give the new GM time to get settled in and get some pieces in place to be better prepared for the off-season, free agency and the draft...in addition to evaluating the current roster. I do agree with your later post that it was a PR move. That was probably the primary reason. However, regardless the reason, I think it was the right move and the only wrong time to fire Millen would have been "tomorrow".
September 24, 200818 yr I think this way, you get a new GM who can evaluate the team for the final 13 games and see what they really need to do in order to be competitive. Long overdue, but better late than never.
September 24, 200818 yr If another team hires him then that team is going to be in for a world of hurt!
September 24, 200818 yr Well, there is one. But he owns the Team as well. :irked: My sentaments exactly, but he is a "reedeemer" I just don't see him redeeming himself, but maybe he can give Millen a job in Cincy.
September 24, 200818 yr I don't know of anybody that has been so bad at a sports job that has kept it through that many years. Harry Caray, Bob Howry, and Mike Brown come to mind
