And yes, I know that Democrats typically carry the African-American vote by a WIDE margin. And it's also true that the Republicans typically carry the white conservative vote by a comfortable margin.

This is a real shame. Not that I want Obama to win, ... I don't. But race or gender should not even be an issue in this race. I do agree that there are some who won't vote for him because he is African American, and that is a real shame. However, when you look at what has already happened, either way the USA will make history. Either we will have an African American in the White House or a female as VP. We aren't all the way there yet, but we are sure getting closer.

My belief is that Bias is alive and well not just in America but throughout the world. My problem with media coverage of bias in this country is that it is selectively reported by our news organizations by and large. The coverage seems to always key on white vs. black bias when in fact there is so much more out there.

 

Some won't vote for Palin because she is a woman.

Some won't vote for McCain because he is aged.

Some won't vote for Obama because he is black.

Some won't vote for McCain because he is white.

Some people didn't vote for JFK in '60 because he was Catholic.

Some people probably wouldn't have voted for Huckabee because he is Protestant.

 

Let's face it. Yes, we still have bias in this country and that is ashamed. But we sure have come a LONG way in the short time this country has been in existence. We are the most culturally diverse nation to ever have existed and this fact will necessarily create bias/racism that other nations with more homogeneous cultures don't experience. Yes we still have work to do but thankfully our "Hotel Rwanda" era is in the past.

Being far right does not make them the bad views. Conservatism is the true stance on freedom. Less government and less taxation means you get to make more decisions for yourself. Note, I said less government, not no government.

As far as views that really get the liberals, abortiion and gay marriage for example, are based on religious beliefs, which too many liberals have twisted or others have outright hatred for religion. You have to remeber it is not only the Christian faiths that are against these sins.

IMHO, believing in the second ammendment is not "far right". Being pro-life is not "far right" and believing in a energy policy that includes drilling is not "far right". Also, believing that we should control our borders is not "far right".

I'd challenge you a bit on this. The news would be if suddenly 90% of the blacks in America decided to vote for a non-Democrat. I have no studies or facts to back this up but as a whole blacks in America vote Democrat regardless of the candidate.

 

So, IMO this story has legs because now people who might have normally voted Dems are having second thoughts based on race. That's a story of interest. Blacks voting Dems is like telling me that rich white military males vote Republican.

That indeed is the crux of this story. It is distressing to me to hear long-term, hard-core Democrats who have voted in every election for 40 years or more tell me that they can't bring themselves to pull a lever attached to black man's name.

Historically blacks vote about 90% democrat. If Obama is now picking up 95% (I have seen estimates as high as 99%) that percent is about the same as the whites who won't vote for him, isn't it? I know he loses in raw vote numbers though.
