If so, what age would that be? 60? 70? Every 10 years after you get your license?

And no, Granny didn't side swipe me today or nothing. Just thought it would make for some interesting discussion.

I say 70
I agree 70 is a good age to retake it then every 5 years after that unless you have an accident then you should have to retake it after the accident . Should have to have a mandatory vision test every 2 years after 70 also . BTW I'm 61 .

I believe that yes we all should be required to retake the test. However, I beleive that it should be modified for an experienced driver. Meaning, I myself if I had to take the test now as it is - I beleive I would fail. Come on - how many of us actually think to use a turn signal, stop properly at stop signs and I could go on and on.

As an old guy, I have no problem at age 70 having to take a test to be able to continue to drive, but in saying that, I truly believe that the age to start to drive should be raised to 18.

Here's one that does . If you don't perhaps you should re-take the test . Now !

I believe that driving tests should be readministered at a routine and regular basis but . . . with modifications. I don't really how many people who would parallel park if another alternative is available? Most of us avoid it at all costs!:thumb: So sure don't want that included in the test or I wouldn't pass it no matter how young I was!:scared:

The greatest majority of the problems I think most of us have with elderly drivers is that they can't stay on the road and in order to try to accomplish this they drive 5-10mph.:eek:

So the test should consist of an eye exam, testing their ability to remain between cones, pull into a parking spot without hitting cars on either side and their ability to judge distances.

At the age of 60 and a mandatory eye and physical test every year or if the doctor catches something early and orders it to be done sooner and then reviewed by the Cabinet of Transportation!!!

I think not. Not unless there was an accident or a ticket. My mother in law is 82 years old and she stays in the road and she does not drive slow, etc. I know many older drivers like this. Maybe it should be up to the doctor to let someone know if they think the person should re take the test. But, to just give it to them for no reason except age is not going to cut it for me. I would actually like to know stats on drivers ages and tickets given and accidents that happen. I bet that it is the young adult driver that has the most. Maybe I am wrong...but, it is my gut feeling.

I prefer to not get in a wreck, so I definitely use a turn signal, stop properly at stop signs and I could go on and on with the things I hopefully do right behind the wheel.

Mrs PH, would you say that would be 'elderly discrimination' if they were required to take the test?

My grandfather is 87 and, God love him, is pretty much losing it. He hasn't driven a car in at least 10 years, and I don't think he could see over the steering wheel if he sat in a car. He has an attention span that lasts no longer than 30 seconds, and would surely forget he was driving if he was at the wheel.

When he moved to Kentucky, they didn't even make him do anything, they just gave him a new driver's license. Fortunately, he doesn't have a car, but it is unbelievable that there was no requirements.

I think everyone should be mandated to retake the driving test every eight years AND pass an eye exam. This would get a lot of bad drivers off the road and not just the old ones.

Now see, that's scary :scared:. People should definitely be required to prove themselves.

:thumb: I agree with this and would add that the written test should definitely be included each time. There are many drivers out there on the roads who have either forgotten or are disregarding the rules.

I see drivers of all ages every day who can't figure out who goes next at a 4-way stop. They also don't grasp the meaning of incoming traffic does not stop or keep right except to pass.
