Ashland 36 Russell 10

Featured Replies

After watching this game again on television, I’m even more impressed with the Tomcat victory. There wasn’t a single area of this game in which Ashland did not out play, out hustle, out score Russell. This was just an old fashioned blistering of an opponent. I’m grateful too that there isn’t some segment of “controversy” which Russell fans can harp about…no questionable call or missed field goal, etc, etc.

Coach Hart alluded to “ending this roller coaster ride with all the ups and downs” (radio post game show). We have seen how the Tomcats respond to a loss…they come back with focus and determination. It’s time now to build on a solid win and keep this momentum going. The timing is perfect for the start of district play.

Very well said Painter! :thumb:

I too stayed up to watch the game on TV. It was way past my bed-time, but well worth it. You are right, Ashland dominated this game and it was even clearer on TV. I will give props to Russell's kicking game though - that field goal was nice.

Whew…what a game!! ...

Congratulations too to freshman QB, Sam Hunter. This was not an easy game for his first varsity start. Within the span of less than one week, Hunter led the Tomcats to a win against Ironton (JV) and now Russell. Not too many players can make that kind of claim. ...

Very good point Painter! :thumb:

I remember that Tyler Baldridge got his first varsity start at QB against Russell in 2002 - he got the W too!

Did the Fr QB look like the one who is going to lead the Tomcats the rest of the year ?

^^^^ - we'll just have to stay tuned to find out that answer HCT. Only Coach Hart knows.

I'm shocked to say the least. I figured it would be a nail-biter. This may be just the wakeup call the Devils needed to get refocused & back on track. Coach McGlone & his staff will use this as a springboard I'm sure.

Hats off to the Tomcats though. I'm sure this was the springboard to get their season back on track.

This is Mr. Wildcat's post from the Raceland post game thread:

Yes. Ashland will have another long season. The Ashland program has fallen about as low as it can get. ...Ashland, should never lose to a school the size of Raceland. I never thought I would see the day that the mighty Ashland Tomcat football program would fall to this level. Leon Hart might have been a fine college football coach, but IMO he is not a very good high school football coach. He coaches as if he is coaching college football. Twice tonight, he decided to forgo going for it on

4th and short, and punt from Raceland's 35 yard line. That is just idiotic. ... Ashland used to be known for using it's tight end, and throwing that quick little pop pass. Vic Marsh had great success with it. I don't think Coach Hart knows what it is. Maybe he should go back, and look at some of the films from when Coach Marsh coached. I also don't think I've seen such a small Ashland team. Did they quit feeding the boys in Ashland? Ashland always used to have some big boys up front. I thought I was watching a freshman team out there tonight. Ashland just isn't very big up front. I can't see Ashland winning too many games this year. I predict another 2-8 season at best, and another year not making the playoffs. That might end up being the best thing for the Ashland program though, because I think Coach Hart has pretty much done about as much damage as should be allowed.

Hold on just a minute, you don't get off that easy Mr. Wildcat.

You were the most arrogant Russell poster on here – going so far as to give advice to our coach. :irked:

I think in the future you should save all of your “wisdom” for your own team and coaching staff. I’m sure they will know just what to do with it.

How'd our O-line look to you last night - still think they are small?

Here's some advice for your Devils: Better get in shape - the game isn't over at half-time.

I guess I deserve that Mr. Graybeard. Like I said last night I will come on here and take my medicine. I honestly never meant to come across as arrogant, and if I did then I apoligzie for that. Even though I may be from Russell, I've always had great respect for the great Tomact history. I've seen some great Tomcat teams in my liftime, teams that could compete against anybody in the state. They always carried the torch for Eastern Kentucky football, and I guess that is why I was so critical. I would like nothing more, to see them return to that level. I'm sure you will admit though that Ashland has improved a whole lot since week one. As far as Ashland being small up front compared to Ashland teams of the past, I stand by that comment. Regardless they were dominate last night against my Devils. The way Ashland dominated last night by just lining up, and daring Russell to stop the run reminded me a lot of those former Ashland teams. Congratulations once again to the Tomcats.

I know that some people are shocked by this score but it soesn't to me because Ashland is a tough place to play. Ashland has improved this year from the start and the coaching staff has done a great job.

It did seem arrogant to me. But, apology accepted. :thumb:

Then I guess that makes Russell runts by comparision ....

Kind of has a ring to it doesn't it - "The Russell Runts".

Hey Ram, Oldrambler, Graybeard sees that I know what I am talking about.

The man is in trouble.., :D

Tales of Ashland's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Tales of Russell's greatness have also been greatly exaggerated. This might be a wake-up call, but this is one Russell fan who thinks it was more a Dateline NBC story that exposed the Devils as simply "not as good" as that last couple of seasons. IMO that is nothing to be ashamed of. They still will win 7-8 games and go deep playoffs but I don't know that they will contend for a pizza box trip this season. But here is to hoping they prove me wrong.

I'm looking forward to next week's Super 7

Forget the Super 7, the North-east Ky Top 10 is the only poll that matters. maybe we can get an Ashland pollster now! :ylsuper:

I'm thinking about letting HCT pick some stocks for me his predictions have been so hot. What do you think?

A couple of people have mentioned something to the effect of "just what they need", etc. as referring to the Russell beatdown. I will say that there is imo nothing good in a loss, I am just not wired like that :D.

I will say that imo Coach McGlone and his staff wll get things worked out and corrected and Russell will be much better in the remainder of the season.

One other thing............as for some of the Ashand and other fans that were slamming Coach Hart and your team I will say the same to you as I do to some fans here in RamLand that will occaisionally do this....... "if you are going to trash them and talk about them when they lose then don't come back when they are winning, that kind of fan is not needed". I have couple of suggestions as to which school you could go to support, you would fit right in ;).

I will stop it right there.:D

The market is going bad right now....it may not hurt BUT,............ :scared:you could end up broke.

I don’t think so. Russell is too soft and out of condition this year. The first team good enough to take the devils to the second half will win – but that’s just my opinion.
