Ashland 36 Russell 10

Featured Replies

I just have one thing to say: Raceland's line is bigger and stronger then Ashland's, and Ashland's line is very good, but they said themselves that Raceland's line was the strongest they had played against.

I’m still surprised at how over-rated Russell was – AND how they quit. Never saw a Russell team quit like that before – and I’m pretty old.

I think it was a shock to their system to be behind. And they are not used to playing a whole football game – starters are usually done by the 3rd quarter. Russell should really look at beefing up their schedule. The steady diet of cupcakes is not making you strong.

Tomcats, enjoy tonight but come out Monday working to build on this win and get ready for 5A district play next week.

Whew…what a game!! It was indeed a good night to be a Tomcat. Russell simply had no answer for the play by Ashland’s line. Great control from the guys in the trenches…this looked like old school, vintage Tomcat football. On defense, you rarely ever saw a single Ashland player making the tackle…at times, it looked like there were 12 or more Tomcats out there swarming around the ball.

Congratulations too to freshman QB, Sam Hunter. This was not an easy game for his first varsity start. Within the span of less than one week, Hunter led the Tomcats to a win against Ironton (JV) and now Russell. Not too many players can make that kind of claim.

District play starts in earnest next week. Don’t let up an ounce Tomcats…this season is just beginning.

Lastly, good luck to Russell the remainder of the season. With Ivan McGlone steering the ship, you guys will bounce back with a vengeance.

Very true Graybeard…Russell still probably doesn’t know what hit them. I was surprised too about how they conceded defeat with time still on the clock. Although it was practically impossible to make up the scoring deficit they found themselves in, I don’t recall ever seeing an opposing player take a knee as Russell did on that final kick off and then not even running any plays at games end. I just didn’t expect to ever see that from a Red Devil team.

Great game Tomcats. Sometimes a lose can be a good thing. Russell just got a wake up call.

No, It was a spanking.

I knew Ashland would win by 14. But I couldn't believe they won that big. Great job Tomcats. You are putting it all together. Now go out in the Dist. and make some noise.

You are the only poster to pick Ashland by a large score - AGAIN (that makes twice now)!

I think I'd like to go to the horse track with you - your predictions have been on the money! :thumb:

This is Mr. Wildcat's post from the Raceland post game thread:

Yes. Ashland will have another long season. The Ashland program has fallen about as low as it can get. ...Ashland, should never lose to a school the size of Raceland. I never thought I would see the day that the mighty Ashland Tomcat football program would fall to this level. Leon Hart might have been a fine college football coach, but IMO he is not a very good high school football coach. He coaches as if he is coaching college football. Twice tonight, he decided to forgo going for it on

4th and short, and punt from Raceland's 35 yard line. That is just idiotic. ... Ashland used to be known for using it's tight end, and throwing that quick little pop pass. Vic Marsh had great success with it. I don't think Coach Hart knows what it is. Maybe he should go back, and look at some of the films from when Coach Marsh coached. I also don't think I've seen such a small Ashland team. Did they quit feeding the boys in Ashland? Ashland always used to have some big boys up front. I thought I was watching a freshman team out there tonight. Ashland just isn't very big up front. I can't see Ashland winning too many games this year. I predict another 2-8 season at best, and another year not making the playoffs. That might end up being the best thing for the Ashland program though, because I think Coach Hart has pretty much done about as much damage as should be allowed.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Well I guess I better come on here, and take my medicine like a man. ... Ashland completely dominated all facets of the ballgame tonight. As much as I blamed Coach Hart after the Raceland game, I have to give him credit tonight. He has definitely brought along his team rather nicely. One thing, other than the score that I was disappointed in tonight, was how undisciplined this Russell team was. I haven't seen that from a Russell team in a long time. I better leave it at that, before I get myself into trouble. ...

Hold on just a minute, you don't get off that easy Mr. Wildcat.

You were the most arrogant Russell poster on here – going so far as to give advice to our coach. :irked:

I think in the future you should save all of your “wisdom” for your own team and coaching staff. I’m sure they will know just what to do with it.

How'd our O-line look to you last night - still think they are small?

Here's some advice for your Devils: Better get in shape - the game isn't over at half-time.

When we going, he's the man?

The mighty Ashland Tomcats had the Devils gasping for air. Should really think about moving up a class or two.

Hey Ram, Oldrambler, Graybeard sees that I know what I am talking about.

I know that this is a game for some local pride and bragging rights which is fine, but I do not want to see any Rule #2 junk in here or this out-of-towner is going to send some of you to the pokey. Keep it on an even keel.

OK, I'll give you some credit, you have made some good calls so far this season. You deserve a :thumb:.

After watching this game again on television, I’m even more impressed with the Tomcat victory. There wasn’t a single area of this game in which Ashland did not out play, out hustle, out score Russell. This was just an old fashioned blistering of an opponent. I’m grateful too that there isn’t some segment of “controversy” which Russell fans can harp about…no questionable call or missed field goal, etc, etc.

Coach Hart alluded to “ending this roller coaster ride with all the ups and downs” (radio post game show). We have seen how the Tomcats respond to a loss…they come back with focus and determination. It’s time now to build on a solid win and keep this momentum going. The timing is perfect for the start of district play.
