I thought that was par for the course for SNL.

The SNL of the past had great writers and amazingly funny actors. The new cast doesn't have much of either.

Maybe Franken can return. Not a lot of success on the political airwaves or on the campaign trail (though he is still much in the race).

I am not ripping Phelps, but the entire show. The skits were embarassing.
The skits were mostly recycled from earlier shows. The ones that weren't, were just bad. Somebody must be holding the writers for ransom.
Tina Fey was their head writer and left. The show lost its punch when Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz left too.
For some reason, I didn't realize that Horatio Sanz was gone. He held down the show's "bumbling fat guy" slot pretty well.
Those were good, but not the foundation that made SNL great. They were following in the footsteps of...

Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Gilda Radner, Al Franken, Bill Murray, Laurie Metcalf, Eddie Murray, Joe Piscopo, Billy Crystal, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and others.

And still, the WRITING was the component that made the show great and the biggest void in the current product, IMO.

I was about to say the same thing. :thumb:

Although, Eddie Murray was never the same after he left Baltimore.

;)

The United Way skit was one of the all-time greats!

Do you mean the one where he hit the kid with the football? It was pretty good.

SNL is crap. Should have quit a long time ago.

SNL these days is the equivalent of Willie Mays when he played for the Mets.

I quit watching several years ago except for the Peyton rerun. It's been really bad for a long time. It was GREAT when I was in High School. Sandler, Spade, Farley, Rock, Neilan, Myers etc. To me it hasn't been any good since that crew left. To bad because it was GREAT back then!

 I can't believe I typed that. Hopefully everyone knows I meant Eddie Murphy. :thumb:

Yes, and he kept getting bleeped and yelling at the kids. It was all very un-Peyton-like and he pulled it off very well. But I agree about SNL, that skit and Justin Timberlake's song were two bright spots over the last few years, but it is mostly unfunny junk.

While I'll agree that SNL has suffered the last couple years, it's not as bad as everyone says. I'm fairly sure that most people don't actually watch the show, but rather hear someone else give a bad review and then adopt that as their own viewpoint.

Andy Samberg is the most talented guy on there right now.
