The win against Newport says nothing. The win over Middlesboro could potentially be impressive. The loss to Bell County shows there is still a way to go.

I was there and it was painful to watch...in more than one way. Whitley County didn't really do anything flashy...they just lined up in a double wing formation and ran it right down Newport's throat. I think they might have passed 4-5 times...maybe a couple more....but the passes were short passes....to put it bluntly Newport's run defense was so horrendously bad that Whitley County didn't have to pass.

 

The effort that the Newport players was well.....non-exsistant after Whitley County scored on the opening drive and then the Wildcats gave WCHS a safety when the ball was snapped over the punter's head and out of the endzone.

 

All in all, Whitley County looked fairly decent...I just wish they would have been challenged so I could have seen what they have when their up against an even mildly decent team. As for Newport, they have a long way to good for they can have a winning season. The lack of enthusiasm in every facet of the game was tough to watch...even their sideline was dead. The only thing I heard the fans cheer for, other than when they scored twice when the game was already in hand, was when the band made its entrance into the stadium.

That is a shame, I hate to hear all of this. It just seems that the Wildcats should be more competetive. They have good athletes, they seem like they win in the feeder systems. Good luck Boys!

I figured Whitley would dominate this game. Powers and Lebannion are very good hard nosed football players. Things are looking up for Whitley. I think you have to look at them as the district favorites.

Not real good !

 

Teams that are "Not real good" don't score 52 on anybody in any game.

 

Whitley is better than you think, they DID play bell. Yeah they lost and made Bell look better and Bell made Whitley look worse, but Whitley is an improved team.

Whitley is better than a lot of people think. Maybe the reason Newport looked bad was because Whitley is that good. I mean they outgained Bell last week in offense, but stubbed their toes in the red zone.

Jason Powers had 177 yards rushing and four scores and Cody Jones ahd 63 yards and two scores.
