I used to be a cardiac nurse. Believe me, if it was bad you would not have been allowed to leave the office. I had patients who went straight from the treadmill to open heart surgery.

He may recommend an angiogram (x-ray of your coronary arteries). It is done as an out patient basis. Considering your history of high cholesterol, it probably is a good thing.

Worst case scenario is that they may catch a problem in its early stage...find some blockage that can be treated before things get worse.

We are lucky to live in a time when health screenings can pick up problems in their early stages. These screenings do give us all a lot of "scares" though.

I think it is inappropriate for the nurse to tell you the news. The doctor who read the test should have spoken to you directly. It probably would have saved you a lot of anxiety.

Good luck to you and keep us informed.

Thank you BWF. Actually after reading your post, I'm already feeling a little better. And thanks to the rest of you as well, I will keep you posted. The nurse at my family Dr's office called a litle bit ago, she said they hope to have some news for me around 4:00. By the way, I am 43.

Just got a call from my Dr's office. The nurse told me that she talked with the hospital and all they want to do is another test. Echo something another? She also told me that Doc said not to stress about it, it's probably not much. Guess I'll have to wait until next week sometime, but I am feeling a little better about the situation. I'm a real wuss when it comes to this stuff.

Had the echocardiogram done today, man they put you through the ringer. Still a little tired from it all, and I guess the results won't be known until tomorrow.

I had the angiogram done this morning and they did not find any blockage. Man that was a little scary. I do have high cholesterol and my triglycerides are real high. They have put me on the med Tricor, this should help lower both. I will also be changing a lot of my eating habits, along with some other life style habits. I want to thank everyone for all your words of encouragement, it really did help. I would also like to encourage people to have their cholesterol checked, it's a very simple blood test. I am 5'10 and weigh 175, so you don't have to be a big person to have high cholesterol. I believe that's what a lot of people think, but it's not true.

Again, thanks to everyone. Haven't had much sleep, so I think that's what I'm going to do.

Good to hear they have determined what to treat? Do you have any existing heart disease in your family?

Thanks TD. One of the down falls of being adopted is not knowing all the history.

About 4 years ago I went in for a checkup and had some blood work. My triglycerides came back extremely high - 1000. This was not the first time my triglycerides were high. Back when I was on accutane as a teenager, they skyrocketed then as well.

I took Lipitor for a while but sufferred from joint aches and soreness. I quit taking it and devoted my LIFE to eating extremely healthy and exercising properly. Not just a few month thing to get it under control. The couple of readings I have had since then have been normal.

Baseballguy, I have a question. Do you sometimes have heartburn real bad? The reason I'm asking is that I had some of the same symptoms you had a few years ago. I got sick at one of my son's little league games. By the time I got home I couldn't get out of the car. My wife rushed me straight to the hospital. After their examination, they put me in an ambulance and rushed me straight to Central Baptist in Lexington.

I was in intensive care for about 4 days. They ran all kinds of test. Some of the same ones you mentioned. I had a little blockage that they took care of. The main thing they found was wrong was that I had a hiatal hernia. That is where part of your stomach breaks through the lining that seperates your lungs from your stomach.

When it flairs up my chest hurts like crazy and I get all of the symptoms of a heart attack. It hasn't thought for quite awhile.

I use to get heartburn real bad, until I finally realized what foods were giving it to me. Tomatoes are no longer a part of my diet, nor spicy foods.:irked: My stomach does seem to bother me though more than it probably should. I had double hernia surgery two years ago though, not sure if could be that or not. I have a follow up visit with both my Dr's next week, I will bring that up.

Maybe we are related....I have had three hernias in my life time :scared::scared:
