September 11, 200818 yr It's been 7 years since the day that has changed our lives forever. Share your thoughts....
September 11, 200818 yr I was in 8th grade (the first time...I stayed back for sports) at the time of these attacks. I hardly ever missed school but I did miss school this one tragic day. The reason I missed was this very the day was the day that I went & got contacts for the first time. I was up, getting ready to go to the eye doctor & I was getting out of the shower & saw it on T.V. It's a day & an exact moment I will NEVER forget. Edited September 11, 200818 yr by ScarHeel
September 11, 200818 yr I was teaching school and one of my favorite older teachers had a son in the 1st building. The power went out and when it came on some they were told things were OK to go back to work. Some did and some ran down the stairs. He said at around the 20th floor cheers started breaking out and people were lining against the stairwell walls. It was the firemen coming up to take care of things. He got out and the building tumbled. I want to say he lost 70% of the people he worked with. I always thought about the young kids that lost their parents and what it would be like several years down the road as those kids become teenagers without parents. I always wondered if there would be a lot of backlash from it.
September 11, 200818 yr I was in school, and was told by the teacher that it wasn't anything important, and that we had better things to do than watch TV. I still get mad thinking about her reaction. Definitely a day that I will never forget.
September 11, 200818 yr Here are some pictures I took just a few months ago if anyone wants to see what it currently looks like. The photo of the 2012, is a huge painting on the side of a building right across from the WTC site, showing what the new ones will look, they were down in the holes working on it as I took the pics. September 11, 200818 yr A few more... The cross was a nearby cross that was damaged as you can see and its up on a building right next door. The sphere of peace that sat outside between the two towers, it was damaged and is now down by battery park, where the statue of liberty is and has that eternal flame lit.
September 11, 200818 yr I, as well, will never forget that day. I was in bed when the attacks happened, having worked midnight. When my mother called me and I saw what was going on, it seemed like a dream. I will always keep the families of those who lost their lives in my thoughts. I think of that tragic day every time I look at my right arm, as I have a memorial tattoo of the twin towers on it.
September 11, 200818 yr I really can't believe it's been seven years. I still haven't forgotten. And I love Darryl Worley's song, "Have you Forgotten?"

September 11, 200818 yr I'll never forget this day. Never understood how people could remember events like this so vividly until I'd had one such as 9/11 myself. I was sitting in class, we'd just got done taking an exam, it was Chemistry class, my junior year of HS. I remember I read the text message, and it was back when text message jokes were still common. That's what I thought it was, the girl was sitting right next to me, but I kinda finished the test late, so I thought it was a forward of a joke and didn't understand. She explained what she sent, but I still didn't understand the magnitude of what it meant. I thought it was horrible, but still just "another tragic plane crash". Once class let about about 5-10 minutes lates that's when it became more clear of how serious it was. I remember my geometry teacher, who was about my age now took coat hooks and made antenna's so we could watch. The school had taken it off the air so as not to scare the students, I remember his exact words "This is history, you all will remember this for the rest of your lives, and this is our class today, stay quiet and respect what's taking place right now". For the most part everyone did. I'll never forget that day, all the rumors that transpired afterwards. Funniest thing is we went to a public school, but we often prayed before games, I remember that week I think we prayed a good bit, for everyone involved. It shook everyone up, I even remember the huge gas hikes right afterwards. I wasn't there for Pearl Harbor, Kennedy's assasination, or do I remember much of the cold war. But this is a day I was there for, that definitely changed the world.

But this is a day I was there for, that definitely changed the world. I. too, thought it was just an accident when I heard that a plane had hit the towers. It wasn't until I heard about the 2nd one that I realized what was going on. Several of my friends went up to NYC to help with the cleanup/search. I wanted to go with them, as a firefighter/EMT, but I couldn't get off of work. I have never felt so personably helpless as I watched the situation unfold. I prayed hard that week, as I continue to do for everyone involved.
September 11, 200818 yr Two tragic events I will always remember. I was in the 2nd grade when JFK was assasinated and still remember like it just happened. We all bowed our heads and prayed for him, something that wouldn't be allowed to happen today. 9-11 I was picking up a school bus in Lexington that just happened to have a radio in it, and they came on with the news. I was making a turn on to 421 that's how stuck in my mind it is.
