Thank you all so much. He is in a great deal of pain today. I wish he could just have the surgery today and get it over with. But, they are trying to guard against infection....which it is already somewhat infected already. Let me tell you....this man is a strong one with a great deal of will and faith. Me just taking care of that area is traumatic for me...I can't begin to think what this feels like for him.

Some of you had questions about the bone growing. I am going to try to explain it to you as best as I can.

With almost everything, there are side effects of amputations. One side effect is called heterotopic ossification (sp). This, the best as I can describe it, is where the brain signals the bone to grow instead of scar tissue to form. It is my understanding that this type of thing is common among soldiers wounded by in the Iraq war. Heterotopic ossification happens when there is trauma...especially brain injury (PH did not have this), but, any kind of trauma can do it.

Now, in PH's case, the area will heal and everything seems to be going great. Then, all of a sudden...and trust me, it is all of a sudden....his stump will hurt really bad. I will look at it and see a buldge. Before you can sneeze, the bone is coming through the skin. This has happend once before, but, not like this. The left hand side right now has no skin on it...just tissue and infection. It is out about 4 inches. The other side is not near as bad yet.

Anyway, your prayers are greatly appreciated. This is going to be a pretty big surgery. The DR is going to try to save as much as the stump as possible. I will let you all know what is going on as I can. We are checking in Thurs...which, he will be taking a great amout of antibiotics in an IV. Fri. Not sure what time, he will have the surgery. I think it is going to be later in the day so that they can do more for the infection.

Thanks again!

Any updates?
I haven't heard anything from them. He is admitted tomorrow.

Hey BF!

Mrs PH will have the cellular phone with her, along with a notepad. You each have each other's numbers:sssh::D

Keeping you in our prayers.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

If either of you read this...keep me posted, anytime.

Prayers to you both from the nWo household.

Michael just got out of surgery. The procedure took MUCH longer than expected. It was scheduled for an hour and took more like 4 and a half, if we calculated right. The good news is that they didn't have to take as much of the bone away as they thought they might. In fact, the doctor called out to Mrs. PH during the surgery, and said that they might have to take the whole stump. That scared her to death; but it turned out to be a false alarm. They said he did have some gangrene; but he has good circulation. They also said that they're going to start treating his pressure sores more aggressively now.

That's about all I know. Mrs. PH called me right away, because she wanted her BGP family to be the first to know. I'm sure they're both very thankful for all of our thoughts and prayers. I'll keep you posted as I get news.

I am glad things are going well. We will be praying for the family. Scary when things are happening and you aren't sure of the outcome. Hang in there.

I am so glad that it's over and everything is o-kay. I am ashamed that I haven't posted before now but our computer has been acting like a brat lately.

Anyway, MrsPH knows where I am and if you don't have my new number....please ask me or BF and you can call me if you need anything. God bless you both...

Thank you all again. What a looonnnggg day yesterday was. First the surgery for PH, then, a good friend of ours that worked at the hospital passed away a couple of days ago. It was supposed to have been his 44th birthday yesterday so, the hospital let balloons go in honor of his life. This happened while PH was in surgery. Needless to say, I was a mess.

Anyway, PH is doing better, infact, he wants to come home. That is a great sign. His stumps are real short now, but, atleast he has some leg left. He is still getting used to trying to ballance while he is sitting. I know that he will get that down and be fine with the balancing himself just fine.

As always, his spirits are very high. He never misses a beat!! He is my rock and what keeps me grounded. I know that it should be the other way around...but, that is another reason why is is sooooo amazing!

Thanks again for the prayers and thoughts. He is at the medical center in Bowling Green. His room number is 5c 24. The phone number is 270-796-1000....this is for everyone that has requested this information. We hope that he will get out tomorrow, however, PH is pushing for today....who knows! LOL. I will let you all know when we get home!
