Congratulations to Russell on the win. I was able to catch a little bit of the game on the radio and it sounds like Boyd made this a much closer ballgame than the score indicates.

I really don't think Russell was at risk of losing this game. Yes there were some dropped passes. Russell also had 2 interceptions. Russell also scored pretty much at will, and if BC scores quicker instead of running 8 minutes off the clock when they have the ball, Russell would just go down and score again. BC only stopped them on 2 drives. Discounting the 2 at the end of each half when Russell was trying to run the clock out. BC played offense the entire second half it seemed. They just got 3 yds here, 4 yds there and also converted on quite a few 4th downs in the game. Wilson is the best athlete in the area, and he will run all over any team in this area, and most teams in the state. BC coaches do a good job of spreading out the field and letting him make plays. Russell's conditioning hurt them quite a bit also, they were completely wore out in the second half but still won.

 

Good game BC, they should win their district if they stay healthy.

Boyd (1-0) plays at Russell (1-0) this week.

 

Boyd played well in their opener against East Carter. Russell dominated Greenup in their opener.

 

I look for a close first half with Russell opening things up in the second half. Boyd will have to keep the score pretty low to have a chance in this one.

Boyd's offense will keep them in a lot of games this year. Wilson is one of the best athletes in the area. I think he accounted for around 230 yards on an always tough Russell defense.

 

Dropped passes killed Boyd in the game. That and defense.

 

Boyd just didn't have the speed on defense to stop Russell. They gave up way too many big plays to have a chance to get a win.

While I agree that Russell scored at will for the most part, if Boyd scores at the end of the half, and Wilson doesn't throw the pass from the 10 into triple coverage in the endzone for a pick, you have a totally different set of circumstances. I disagree that they were not at risk of losing this game. I'll bet that the coaching staff will not only make adjustments personnel wise/assignment wise from reviewing the film, I'll bet that the staff makes some coaching adjustments as well. And that's what all good football teams do.:thumb:

BC out rushed and out passed Russell, How did Russell pull this one out?

 

Field position. While Boyd did do well stat wise, Russell never seemed to have to go as far to score. I give Boyd props though, they moved the all well against Russell. They just couldn't stop Russell. Looks as though Boyd improved 10 fold from week 1. Good to see Coach Evans heading them in the right direction. If the Boyd faithful will give him time, he WILL build a good program at Boyd.

The offense looked great but they have some problems on the defensive side. Looked as though Coach Morris was trying to find some players last night. H was rotating people everywhere, in and out. Knowing Morris, I can bet anything that heis very upset at their performance on defense. It won't take him long to get them where he wants them.

Unlikely. You usually improve the most from Week 1 to Week 2. Don't expect them to make another HUGE improvement next week. They'll prob improve more but not like they did from last week. That's just the nature of the beast. They need to find some help for Wilson to beat teams like Russell.

That's alot of what if's. Risk of losing a game is not a dropped pass before halftime that would have brought them within a score. Sure, it was a big play but to say that Russell was at risk to lose the game from that is a big scretch don't ya think. They were never at risk to lose that game. Boyd did shoot themselves a couple of times but that's part of football. Russell may make some personel qweeks on defense but they won't make any changes. They are going to stick with what they do. They'll just have the kids working harder to do just that.

Scored more points. You can get all the yardage in the world between the 20's but if you can't put it in the endzone, you'll lose.

 

Twice, I saw BC's offense struggle inside the 20. Short field helps the defense against that spread offense.

Yeah, you're right. He catches that pass and cuts it to one score, oh, and they got the ball to start the 2nd half, oh, and they scored on the opening drive and the score would have been tied. Which is one dropped pass, which makes only one "if". He catches that in the endzone and the game is totally different, perhaps the outcome is the same, who knows, but to say that they weren't in jeopardy is not the game I watched. Were you there?

I'm not sure that is true. Wilson will go for 200+ against ANY team in Eastern Kentucky, and 90% of the teams in the state. He really is that good. They have a very good run D against normal offenses, but the 5-2 isn't really designed to stop the spread option. This D is as good as most Ive seen, other than for T Jones I think the Defense is much better in every position.
