Yeah, you're right. He catches that pass and cuts it to one score, oh, and they got the ball to start the 2nd half, oh, and they scored on the opening drive and the score would have been tied. Which is one dropped pass, which makes only one "if". He catches that in the endzone and the game is totally different, perhaps the outcome is the same, who knows, but to say that they weren't in jeopardy is not the game I watched. Were you there?

What if #1: He catches the pass before the half

What if #2: They score on their opening 2nd half possession

What if #3: they score again

What if #4: They hold Russell to 0 points in the 2nd half

 

Just to name a few. I didn't even mention the what if he hadn't thrown into triple coverage. That's alot of what if's, IF you ask me. I'm not taking anything away from Boyd, I thought they improved greatly and I think they will have a heckava year but I just think saying that Russell was in jeopardy of losing this game is a stretch. That's just my opinion. Just like you have your opinion that they were in jeopardy. No reason to get hasty because I don't agree with you on this.

Russell has a very good offense, but the defense is the worse I have seen in several years. They will have a run in the playoffs like always as the district is terrible this year, but they will have a hard time stopping really good teams.

 

I do think they struggled against Wilson but I think they will be okay by the postseason for 1 reason: Gary Morris. He can make a mediocre defense look spectacular. I don't think this D is as good as the '04, '05, or '06 but I think they'll be pretty good by the end of the year. Friday, it looked as though Morris was trying to find some players. He was constantly shuffling players in and out trying to find the right formula. A good quick QB like Wilson can make the 5-2 look really bad and I think he did a really great job of doing just that Friday night. He's a player man, I think he may be the best athlete around. I can't think of anyone better right now. But Morris will find the players he wants and he'll put them in position to make the plays. I've seen alot of coaches in my time and he just may be the best defensive coach I've ever seen at this level. They'll be just fine by the end of the year.

Lets not forget BC ran 30 more offensive plays than Russell and they had the same amount of yds.

Blind naivity that this game was a few mistakes from ending differently isn't reality, no matter what shade the lenses on your glasses were. What was ugly about it? Russell put more points on the board than they ran plays. Like was stated, they won by 15, but when your putting a 5-2 up against a spread option offense with one of the state's best athletes and players. Don't be surprised if he has a career game. He will beat most players 1 on 1, which is what BC coaches had in their game plan and succeeded. Not to mention the entire Russell team was sucking wind hard about halfway through the first quarter.

Russell's D may not be the best, but the D in both state games wasn't really all that great. Good, but not great.

 

Their O will pick up the D if it falters, I don't see any team on their schedule being able to stop them from putting up 35+ points on the board. Assuming their weapons are utilized properly. Russell hasn't even been pushed to use their offense to their full capabilities. 4-5 in the first half passing for 2 TD's and 140yds. That opened up the run game in the second half, and they got a TD and chewed up game clock.
