I remember going to the first fireworks and it was really not a big deal. We would head down to the flood wall around 7, wait a couple of hours and then the fireworks would start with a lotta rock and roll music for a half an hour and when it was over, we just got in the car and left. Not a big deal. I kinda liked the old days when the emphasis was on just the fireworks. Now it just seems like a major production with sponsors and selling this and that and it just isn't simple anymore.:irked:

I hate the fireworks, but there I was last night, on the river. Never doing it again though, because as we unfortunately found out, they don't sell alcohol down there....

I normally don't go, and this was the first year I was able to buy alcohol if it were for sale, so I had no idea. I was not very happy though.

We went, and I predicted in the other thread that it would probably be a nightmare, but it wasn't. We didn't take the boat all the way down, so we didn't have to tie up and get stuck in all that mess. Pretty good time.

 

I thought the music was pretty crappy, and then about 3/4 of the way through, somebody realized we were listening to 92.5 Oops.

I remember the mid to late 80's and early 90's when they sold alcohol there were drunkards laying in puke on the hillside, people tumbling down the hill all sauced up and numerous fights. It was the only time I ever say a guy's face explode right in front of me. I for one am glad they got rid of the alcohol down there as it is more family oriented now. The Riff Raff is still out there, we saw some folks who must not have full length mirrors in their home because they were wearing some of the skimpiest outfits and things were just overflowing everywhere.

 

My wife and I actually had a nice date night getting a sitter and decided to hit Pompilio for some Pasta and drinks. After stuffing my belly with Spinach Chicken Florentine a couple Crowns + a splash we then made the walk down to do some people watching. We got up on the walkway at the Aquarium and found a nice curved garbage can and curb. The Fireworks were great and the people seemed very much under control which is nice. I was just a little ticked that they had the Newport on the Levee blocked off for a private party. We had 9:45pm movie tix for the Dark Knight and had to walk a 1/2 mile around the wall to get back to the Levy for the flick.

 

A great night had by all and the best part was we had the whole movie theatre to ourselves practically. ; )

I agree totally! Back in the old days it was a nightmare--especially walking back to your car. There were fights all over the place, stumbling drunks, and idiots harassing the motorists stuck in traffic.

Did you buy the tickets online or at the box office . If you bought them at the box office my son sold them to you . He had to work there till 11 .

I watched them from Devou Park. The Bluffs up there have an awesome view.

I still cant quite figure out the weekend, we stay up there on Saturday and Sunday Night...Saturday night usually gets out of hand...and I spend Sunday recovering. I have to admit, "my friend told me", Saturday Night at the Hooters patio was a blast! Just suprised the "house" shut down at 1:30....

Nah, an older gentleman who looked like he could careless whether the fireworks were going on or not.

I went once about 10 years ago and that was all I needed. What a freakin' mess. I'm just not a big enough fan of fireworks in general to want to deal with all those drunk people. I doubt I'll ever bother with Thunder in L'ville either.
