Washington Co. 35 Lincoln Co. 30

Didn't see this one coming...

Lincoln didn't have three starting offensive/defensive linemen, which really began to show in the second half. Washington County is really quick and have a very good quarterback. They basically ran draws and screens and the interior line of Lincoln had no answer.

Lincoln County looked good on offense early. Trey Edwards looked really nice at quarterback. In my opinion he is an upgrade from the previous couple of years. His line simply wore down and the protection he got early that allowed him to make a ton of nice throws wasn't there after halftime. He didn't have the time and therefore didn't have as much success.

I still think Lincoln County is more than capable of winning their district. They just have to get healthy.

Watch out for freshmen Jerrill Alcorn from Lincoln Co. He has the opportunity to be a special player for the patriots this year and in the future.

Joe Joe Simms is his name, and he is a pretty good ballplayer. From what I've been told, he is a distant relative to Phil Simms. Washington Co. had a lot of injuries to key players last year, which hurt them down the stretch. But when healthy, they can be dangerous.

wow, Seen Washington in a scrimmage vs. Waggener they were not very good, Lincoln is in trouble, French got out just in time.

Wow, don't head to the cliff after one game. If Lincoln has the three linemen healthy for this game I believe they win by two touchdowns.

Yes, I agree.

Congrats to WC sounds like they played well. Really the shocker of the week form.

Lincoln also has alot tougher folks on the schedule than Washington County. Its a 5a school you don't at least have one or two back up lineman ready to play?

I think the problem is that the injured linemen started last season (and the one before that). They basically promoted the JV starters/varsity backups to a starting position for this game. It wasn't that they weren't ready to play; it just means that many times JV starters at 5A schools aren't that much different from varsity starters at smaller schools.

No they don't. They dress about thirty kids or so... not much depth. That is what is so amazing about what French did here. Settles will be fine, they will not be very good this year. I don't think that is a shock to anyone who follows the program. They will be competitive, but probably won't win a lot of games.

Washington got all the breaks and took it to LC in the second half on the ground. Neither defense looked good. LC just turned it over one more time, that was the difference.

A big point in the game is when the late hit was not called on Washington after the cheap shot on Edwards, then he comes out and the backup throws a pick. Or, when Washington stopped LC on the one yard line. Two huge plays in the game.

Congrats to Washington...

Mark Perry is one of the most talented coaches in the state that noone has ever heard of. Congratulations to the Commanders, this is a big win.

I was suprised to see only 35 players or so myself last night. Still have some really good looking young kids.
