Offense sells tickets - defense wins games.

 

Exactly. I can think of plenty of Pass first teams that run through the season like a buzz saw only to get cut down come playoff time.

 

In college Valdosta State is the only pass happy team I can think of that has had lasting sucess.

Here is Trinity's breakdown for its State Championship years:

The numbers show that over these years, 54% of Trinity's plays have been rushes and 46% have been passes.

No one has won a game with passing a 100% of the time, but here recently in 4a Catholic, and Cov. Cath both won passing the ball alot. IMO it is equally as hard to get there running it only.

The simple truth is, no matter what level you are on, high school, college, or even the NFL, you have to have a running game to win championships. You can be a pass oriented team, but to win you have to be able to run as well. Every NFL, college, and high school team that are big game winners do it. There is a time to run and time to pass, you have to be able to do both.

 

I agree with Ram, a good team has to be two dimensional on both sides of the ball. A good defense matched up against a one dimensional offense has an advantage IMO since they primarily only have to focus on one threat, the run or pass. Take Lex Catholic as an example. Granted Lex Catholic was a very good team last year, but I would say they had a big advantage on defense since they could pretty much disregard any run threat (heavy on blitzing, double team receivers, etc..). If Warren Central made it to the finals, I don’t think the score would have been nearly as lopsided since WC was more of a balanced offense.

I think Lone Oak came close, especially if you remove QB rushing (scramble) numbers.

2003 Didn't Belfry pass once and E-Town rushed once. The rushing team barely won. Great game.

During Catholic's two state championship runs, they were well balanced on offense.
