I think the most interesting speech may be President Clinton's. He wants to make it about his 8 years vs Bush's 8 years while the campaign wants him to speak on Obama's behalf. Supposedly, President Clinton is not very happy with his role.

I have a hard time believing President Clinton will defer to what others want him to say. He is the biggest celebrity of the party, and he knows it. Clinton is about as clever as they come and I could see some subtle backhands thrown out there.

Clinton won the night with a great speech, though, its ultimate success will be determined by how her supporters respond and back the party.

 

Deval Patrick should have had the primetime speech. He was flawed, but the speech was good overall and the direction the Democrats need to go during this convention. Warner didn't do that.

I think Hillary's speech accomplished its goal - to show that Hillary's supporters , if they truly support her, have to vote for Barack.

 

On the other hand, she still made it a lot about her and not much about Obama. However, she is a Clinton so that was to be expected.

An ABC news producer was arrested for taking pictures of "Senators, big donors" outside of a hotel in Denver for a story on money in politics.

Bill Clinton delivered the speech of the convention thus far. He was both eloquent and witty, but was also able to frame the coming election in simple terms the Democrats have failed to do so far - "rebuild the American dream" and "restore America's leadership in the world."

 

As far as Biden's speech, I could take it or leave it. He was powerful as well as effective once he started into a subject, but he failed to transition between them seamlessly. His speech took too long to get rolling and it, as a whole, was choppy. Though, he more or less built on Clinton's speech, he didn't take it far enough.

Biden was not put up there to be a great speaker. He was put up there to attack the opponent and to stress that he knows the middle class and their issues. He accomplished both.

So far, this has been a very bad convention for Obama and the Democrats. Tonight, Obama will look like a Roman Emperor from some 60's movie. He is playing the role of celebrity rock star candidate perfectly. A great speech will probably not prevent this convention from being a disaster.

 

If there has been any convention bounce to this point, the bounce has been for McCain. Obama may yet gain a few points in the polls but this convention cannot be what his campaign had hoped for. Look for more Obama the celebrity candidate ads from McCain. My advice to Obama would be not to wear a toga tonight. :lol:

I have to disagree. I have always voted Republican, but after watching, listening and thinking about it............I am now leaning to the other side. I'm just not convinced at this time that a McCain Presidency will be any different or better than Bush's.

Bush was wise not to wear a toga. Correct me if I am wrong, but Bush did not move his acceptance speech to a larger venue to hold more of his adoring, fainting fans - did he?
