I have to disagree. I have always voted Republican, but after watching, listening and thinking about it............I am now leaning to the other side. I'm just not convinced at this time that a McCain Presidency will be any different or better than Bush's.

I understand how somebody who has always voted for a Republican might be tempted to vote differently after eight years of Bush but I doubt many of your fellow Republicans will be voting for the most liberal man ever nominated by the Democratic Party. I hope that you will be swayed the other way after by the end of the Republican convention.

Bush was wise not to wear a toga. Correct me if I am wrong, but Bush did not move his acceptance speech to a larger venue to hold more of his adoring, fainting fans - did he?

 

Why should there be an issue on where he holds his speech?

I will probably mostly watch clips of the major gaffes. I hope to catch the Carter and Bill Clinton speeches.

 

I am also going to try to watch Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin's speeches next week. I have no real interest in watching either Obama's or McCain's acceptance speeches of the roll call vote and speeches preceding them.

Historically, polls have been the measure of effectiveness of political conventions. No bounce or small bounce = failed convention.

 

I have watched several convention speeches, including those by Bill and Hillary, Kucinich, the Montana Gov., and a few others. I have also paid close attention to the analysis given by Democratic political gurus such as Carville. Overall, the reviews have not been good.

 

If, after Obama's speech tonigh, his lead suddenly begins to grow at a fast rate, then the convention will have been a success. Otherwise, it will have been a wasted opportunity and Obama will be blamed for the blunder of picking Biden over Hillary.

Sort of an interesting night; certainly subdued. I think that it is a good idea, and the message of America first, Party second in this time of crisis is a solid touch. Cindy and Laura did well, but nothing over the top. But, again, it was purposely subdued tonight.
