August 20, 200818 yr Are we talking TODAY or are we taking into account their history? If its the former, no way Bowden and JoePa make the list. Either, they both have forgotten more than some know today. Just because they can't outrun the Stoops or the Miles of the world today doesn't mean they don't do a heck of a lot of coaching behind the scenes.
August 20, 200818 yr In no certain order, here's mine: Jim Tressel Bobby Petrino Mack Brown Les Miles Pete Carroll I had completely forgot about M. Brown, he is definately one of the top coaches.
August 20, 200818 yr Author I wanted to at least mention Ron Zook who has done a very good job!! Also, the guy at Hawaii the used to be with the Atlanta Falcons has done a good job building a program!! Did he resign or retire or something?

August 21, 200818 yr Author Jim Tressel Frank Beamer Mark Richt Steve Spurrier Joe Paterno From the past..... Eddie Robinson Bear Woody Bo Roy Kidd Tom Osborne Man, I hadnt thought about the best from the past. Here's a try! Bear, Dr. Tom Osborne, Woody & Bo, Switzer, Jimmy Johnson, Frank Broyles, Pat Dye, Lou Holtz, and Georgia's coach from the 70's and 80's(I know his name as well as mine but Im having brain block)! There. Thats 10 oldies!
August 21, 200818 yr Pete Carroll Les Miles Frank Beamer Urban Meyer Bob Stoops You want to throw in some guys who are still active and can still coach, but may have a touch of hanger-oner then I have to throw in certainly, Bobby Bowden Joe Paterno I put Jim Tressel in kind of his own category here. Great coach, brings in great players, wins lots of games, but has had trouble getting it done nationally. For about the past two years at least SEC schools are making Tressel's Bucks look like they are way behind the curve when as to all season long their dominance of the BIG 10 had the media portraying them as the curve. I don't know whether to put this on the shoulders of the conference, or on the coach, Tressel is good, he wins games, he gets to the big games, and has won it in the past. Not the best or top five right now, so I guess the way I look at it he is basically in a category between the first five and the category with Bowden and Joey Pa.

August 23, 200818 yr Paterno and Bowden are both well past the age that they should have retired. If they want to still coach, they should retire and go coach there grandkids, or great grands, in little league or something.
