How did the scrimage go ?

Sorry ! My computer must have messed up I was not geting the comments on the scrimage until after my previous post.

High paw back atcha Bayshore. We need to get a couple of more companies on board and we will be playing at Rosspoint next year. I really think that it's just a matter of getting out and asking around. The community support for the school and even the football team has just been overwhelming.

 

 

Ross Kegan is a man of his word and Black Mountain Resources has never given a donation this large before. They "get" the big picture. They realize that it's an investment into their workforce. Not everybody wants to go to college and coal miners make a good wage, as they should. They need smart, strong, healthy, and drug free employees to mine their coal. This is a chance to invest into their future and also a chance to show that "the company" really cares about the folks of our county.

Anyhow...back to the bears....

 

Great to hear that Da' Bears are receiving so much support from their community. The atmosphere in the mountains seems to be a positive one. Good luck with your season!

The Bears have a lot of weapons on the "O" side of the ball. I still say they could have the most team speed in the mountains. It looked like to me they only ran 3 or 4 plays on "O" and stayed in a base "D" all night. People also need to understand the special teams did not get a look in the scrimmage. You have to think about teams kicking to Gilliam, Simmons, and Smith could spell danger.

They didn't do much the first series, but they were good after that. Zach Blanton and Nathaniel Gilliam ran for touchdowns. T.J. Green and Glenn Roberts also had some good runs. Lance Simmons had several catches.

 

Freshmen Marcus McMillian and Cody Taylor had the two longest runs of the night late in the second scrimmage. The JV didn't look as good as I expected, but the freshmen were sharp.

 

Sounds like the running game was fine. Like someone mentioned, I'm sure they kept a lot under their hats.

 

How do you think they're going to use Gilliam/Green? Gilliam is more of a "get to the corner" back, while Green will pound it between the tackles. Will they be alternating frequently?

 

The freshman team may be the most talented class they have. They may have an undefeated season.

I also thought the Freshmen team did a great job. Glad to see Coach getting the boys in the game last night. CANNOT wait til Friday.:fight::thumb: GO BLACK BEARS!!!

Anybody interested in tailgating next Friday? We need to talk it up and get together. I think this would be a great time for everybody to get together and kick off the season. I talked to several people last night and everyone seemed to be excited about getting together. We just need to say that we are going to and do it. I'm ready.

I really don't think the Freshmen team will lose a game this year. They looked good. The good thing about this scrimmage is that we all know that the Black Bears are only gonna get better as the season goes on! They got all of their first game jitters out of the way and my guess is that next week we will witness a full on assault!:ylsuper:

 

 

 

 

I heard that Grillzilla might make an appearance over at LCC next week. Can't wait!

DNP. I don't know the reason but I saw him walking the

sideline with a slight limp.

Is Merida expected to be the Panthers' top back this season?

Doubt it, I hear they are returning a senior running back that is really tough.

Chad has a knee injury. Nothing serious, just a rest it kind of deal. He'll be fine shortly, his dad said.

I don't think the first team backfield played any against Williamsburg and all the starters were out very early.

 

I thought Williamsburg looked better than Lynn Camp. The Wildcats struggled early against Pineville's passing game, and Williamsburg's is better.

 

We did have a lot out. All 3 of our centers were injured or have been ill. The big Tackle, Baker, has had to take the week out. The starting QB/safety/kicker/etc. has a broken thumb and was not under center. No excuse, just the reason that we looked a little shaky. Pass D is still not quite where it should be. We'll be OK. HOWEVER: Did you see LC pass the ball? How about that!!!!:lol:
