We hadn't made it in to the stadium area yet and all at once we heard a marching sound. The folks standing out in the parking lot all turned to see the Black Bears walking to the stadium 2 X 2, all 90 of them. It was something to hear the sound of those cleats clicking on the black top. There was the HUGE line of boys marching alomost in unison and they had their games faces on. The coaches were scattered about every 20 feet along side this long snake of Black Bear football players. I'm telling you...it was a moment.

High paw back atcha Bayshore. We need to get a couple of more companies on board and we will be playing at Rosspoint next year. I really think that it's just a matter of getting out and asking around. The community support for the school and even the football team has just been overwhelming.

 

 

Ross Kegan is a man of his word and Black Mountain Resources has never given a donation this large before. They "get" the big picture. They realize that it's an investment into their workforce. Not everybody wants to go to college and coal miners make a good wage, as they should. They need smart, strong, healthy, and drug free employees to mine their coal. This is a chance to invest into their future and also a chance to show that "the company" really cares about the folks of our county.

I heard that Lance Simmons was the most productive offensively tonight. Also heard the Bears had a hard time getting the ground game going. True?

From what I saw of the two games with KC and Williamsburg it looked like the same players at least in the first couple of series of both games. But enough about those guys. What did you think about Lynn Camp? I thought they looked good at moments and lacking in others.

Any comments?

And yes that was an impressive line of football players when they marched onto the field.

I don't think the first team backfield played any against Williamsburg and all the starters were out very early.

 

I thought Williamsburg looked better than Lynn Camp. The Wildcats struggled early against Pineville's passing game, and Williamsburg's is better.

Lynn Camp has some injuries though and should be better by the time they play the Jacket Air attack.

There were no starting RB's, QB or lineman in on offense for the Bears against the Jackets. Letcher Central's field holds 3,000 according to KHSAA. Knox Central held 1,500.

I wouldn't have the stats but Harlan scored both TD's on the ground and basiclly ran the same running plays, remember it was just a scrimmage and the Bears were limited and still looked really good. A real good sign is that they always converted on 4th down.

What I heard that they was getting 4 to 5 yards a play. So I don't think they had a hard time running the ball.

Rule 13

They didn't do much the first series, but they were good after that. Zach Blanton and Nathaniel Gilliam ran for touchdowns. T.J. Green and Glenn Roberts also had some good runs. Lance Simmons had several catches.

 

Freshmen Marcus McMillian and Cody Taylor had the two longest runs of the night late in the second scrimmage. The JV didn't look as good as I expected, but the freshmen were sharp.

If the stands hold 1500, there was definetely not 4500 in attendance, but a good turnout.

 

I agree Letcher Central is going to be caught in a Black Bear stampede.

 

Both the offense & defense struggled a bit in their first series, although the D didn't give up a score until very late. The offense got on track after that. I see a nightmare coming for teams trying to figure out some of HC's misdirection capibilities on offense. Defensively, they are going to be have to improve on defending the flat.
