Yes to both questions. For whatever reason we seem to play competitive games against the Louisville elite in Lexington but the Louisville games are blowouts. Same thing two years ago when St. X clobbered us. Would not be surprised if X does it to us again in three weeks. I think X and T get out of the blocks quicker and once they get the mo rolling, look out!

We looked bad early last year against X also. Got knocked out of number one ranking in 4a for the rest of the season. We were competitive with Highlands later in the year. This year we go to their place and it may be a different story.

Right now the X and Highlands games look like sure losses but you never know how quickly all the new guys will mature. I thought our defense especially over ran a lot of plays because they ran too hard and couldn't turn and make tackles, speed has to be controlled. Same thing on offense.

The good thing is that the speed is there.

So the two best teams in Lexington according to the preseason hype were behind a combined 64-0 versus Trinity and St. X at the half?

 

Lexington Catholic's state championship does not run through Louisville privates, and that is a big reason why they have had the post season success in the last three years. But the 6A Lexington school's state championship does run through the Louisville privates and their performances, of late, have bordered disgraceful.

 

Lexington schools have been put on notice that the gap seems to be getting bigger between them and the pace setters........Trinity and St. X.

 

What is being done to change this?

In order to play with T and X you have to compete every second of every play. Any let down or mistake will be seized upon by both of these great teams. T and X do not miss tackles, blocks, drop passes or turn the ball over enough for their opponent to gain an advantage. Teams that expect to compete against them have to play at a high level mentally. Anything less and you find yourself down by 21 points wondering what happened.

I do agree that these two Louisville schools are very well coached and limited mistakes.

 

But they do miss tackles and blocks. They do drop passes and make turnovers.

 

From what I have seen from the Lexington schools is they are beat tactically and psychologically before the opening kickoff, in additon to the huge difference in discipline of the players of the respective schools.

That seems to be one of the biggest things with many teams. Once either Trinity or St.X get up on their opponent it almost seems like they are deflated and they start thinking "Oh no, not again." Rarely have I ever seen a team battle back against the Rocks or Tigers after getting down 2-3 scores. The most notable exception, in my opinion, was when T played HC in 2006. We put up 28 on them in the first quarter but they battled back harder than any other team I have ever seen us play.

I believe the recent transfers to Scott County may put this on hold at least until Caleb's senior year.

Also, in 2005, Lex Cath was down either 14 or 21 at the half to X, then came back to tie it up before losing on a last second FG.
