Holy Cross (Covington) 2008/2009

Explain this to me? How is a Maile less team with one returning starter a clear cut favorite? Especially since Shover, while I do see him as a top player in the region, has yet to feel the pressure of being a number one or even two go to guy on a team?

I agree, Shover will feel the pressure this year. I think HC and Beechwood have a legit shot at beating CCH this year.

Why all the sudden rag on Nikola now? Last year he was Scott's leading scorer against HC. Pretty sure he had a double double as well. Scott returns a lot more than Holy Cross that is for sure. Shina might have a good game, but Scott has a legit 4 or 5 scoring threats with Nikola, Murray, Hiller, and a possible O'conner. Correy Sorrel could play down low better than most if not all their post players that they have now. So I would say that Nikola does have a pretty good game against them. Especially since I have seen that him and O'conner have a nice high low going, and Nikola is stepping out a bit and is being successfull with it. But like it was said, this isn't a Scott thread, just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Not ragging on Nikola, it's just some people are annointing him as an unstoppable force. Trust me I have seen him play I know he is a good player. I am in no way ragging. Scott does have some good returning talent though it should be interesting. Whether they are alot better than HC is over stated, we return everyone but Corey. I know thats a big loss, but we will surprise people I think.

HC will be a better TEAM than last year this year it is not a one man show

Surely that's not a shot at Cory Sorrell.

Surely not Corey and I are very close. That was a shot at coaching staff for not realizing what they could have had, if they didn't run everything through Corey and played as a team.

They could have done a lot more and they wouldn't have lost to Beechwood, 1st round of the All A last year.

He's just not the blue chip recruit some people make him out to be.

Gotcha . I'd say you're wrong though on your view of how they would have done. He was the only scoring option they had if the D focused on cutting Giwa's penetration off. "Playing as a team" would not have helped HC last year. They did exactly what they had to do in order to compete. They had kids that played hard and battled but simply could not score.

I dont agree because they had an excellent Blake Trimpe who saw pretty limited minutes and didnt get the ball enough he is a great player.. They could have went to Eastin more and i really think they should have used Egan instead of Barth

I'm going to assume that Coach Goetz knows more about his personnel than you and me so I'll defer to him. Plus that was last year so....

Well I have played and still play with most of them. I can tell you Barth was not fitted for High School basketball and there was also a lot of talent they could of had but got rid of, or others who didn't like the coaching staff. I think they could have contended with everyone last year if they would have had all the talent, that came out or wanted to come out.

Yeah I agree. Eastin and Trimpe can score and they should have used them more. Egan should have played too. Hopefully he will see a lot of time this year because he can play and will be a factor.

With Volpenhein, Sullivan and Egan under the basket should be alot of rebounds and 2nd chance points so i agree Egan will be a factor this year.

I think the statement in bold is not even close to being accurate. No matter who HC had or didn't have last year, they were not in the same ball park as Holmes or CovCath.

When was the last time HC even made it to the regional tournament?

Holmes & CovCath dominate this district and IMO...I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Explain this to me? I don't see CCH being dominating at all.
