NCC beat Campbell County 20-6 on Saturday. I am guessing that Twenhofel won the second game.

Also, what time is the championship game Saturday at Newport?

So how did Newport fair this year? Who should we watch for next year at the Fresh for the Cats?

Championship game is @ 7pm @ Newport.

What middle school football teams have won their conference and are moving on to the state tournament in Lexington. These are the teams I know of so far:

8th grade- Wayne Co., I think the winner of Bell Co. vs. Whitley Co. game

7th grade- Southern (Southwestern), Corbin should beat Clay Co. and move to the championship game against Meece (Somerset).

I have also heard they may take the winner and runner up in some 7th grade conferences (Meece and Corbins conference being one). Any truth to this?

I think they have 7 conf. in it but I was told that an 8th will be added. But if that don't happen this could be very possible.Just have to wait and see.

Newport Middle School finished with a 4 and 4 record this season. The quarter back was #2 Baldwin and he had #13 Guilkey and #10 Stull in the backfield along with #4 (not sure of his name). The wide outs were #40 Pearson and #48 Fisher and #21 Column - Pearson was Baldwin's main target and they managed to connect on quite a few TD's. Guilkey was the main back and also on special teams was able to explode for some TD's. Their defense was good and held their own in several games. IMO - alot of the games they lost was due to the lack of numbers and overall just getting worn down in the end. Coach Eckert had a good team this season and very few if any discipline problems. This is something that a lot of Newport teams have lacked recently - discipline - perhaps this is the group that will make Newport a contender in AA. Coach Eckert also had a good staff this season with Baker, Hambrick and Garrett assisting him with the coaching duties. Good job coaches and players and good luck with the future.

Ran into NCC's Pete Collopy today and he is chomping at the bit for tonights Championship game to get here. This should be a great matchup NCC/ Twenhofel down at Newport Stadium.

I seen them play only one time this year and Baldwin did look very good. Good luck to all of these young men.

I got a chance to catch this one and overall it was a good game. NCC was missing #61 Thacker up front and then #60 Brooks went out with an injury so that hurt them. Collopy #54 wasn't as much of a factor for NCC as I thought he would be. Twenhofel had some good stunts on him to keep him away from the plays. Twenhofel offense was clicking on all cylinders - #34 Bowling was the main back and did a great job. Norton #7 QB - good job overall - strong FB in #64 Cooper - overall a very talented team. Good game by both teams overall.

Congrats to Twenhofel on the win. If you take Collopy out of plays and if Thacker isnt playing at NT then it gives you a great chance to win. Sounds like Twenhofel learned their lesson the first game and made adjustments.

 

Should be fun to watch these kids move onto frosh teams next year.

NewCath has learned what it takes to keep the program going sucessful. A lot of hard work, discipline and the mind set of knowing you can and will be the best.

Congrats to Twenhofel. They were a very very good team this year. Congrats to NCC on a great season as well.
