I learned that trying to have a civil conversation with a Georgia fan this weekend, it didn't work out...
August 1, 200818 yr As another ND fan, I ahte the fact we're not #1 anymore. Hopefully the next few years will rectify that! :thumb: A little history lesson though. Not sure why the hate for not joining a conference, other than just repeating what all the bloggers and sports personalities say about that. ND tried - TWICE - to join a conference, and were told NO both times. They were forced to find their own path, which they did. And they were successful playing a national schedule. Now everyone, especially the conference that said NO twice, wants them to join. Whay would you do in their situation? I guess I just dislike UofL since I went there and saw some stuff I didn't like.

August 1, 200818 yr It's because the SEC fans take pride like no other confrence does. There is a difference between pride and obsessive condescension, the SEC and Big 10 fans are among the most obnoxious about it. Although to be fair, the SEC has more bragging rights recently than the Big 10.

While I understand and respect the "pride" aspect, you don't see me crowing about the fact that the city of Louisville took 1/3 of the state titles in football last year. I am proud of the Rocks and I have a few other teams I support out in the state but you aren't going to see me going into a bar around Belfry (if there are any) and bragging on Louisville Central. The same applies to college football. If WVU had won the NC last year I wouldn't have been going bonkers bragging about it chanting "BIG EAST," like a tool. I would have been happy for WVU and that would have been the extent of it. For what it's worth I am a Shamrock first and foremost and an ND fan in college.

If Ohio St. wins the national title I guess I'd be happy for them (though even that would be very hard), but I certainly wouldn't be crowing around at how great the Big 10 was (especially if I were a middle of the road team like say Indiana, Minnesota, etc.) I think certain teams fan bases, whose teams haven't yet accomplished a lot, like to take pride in the accomplishments of others in their conference.

Sorry the only time I root for the SEC is when they play O$U. I do not like the SEC but my hatred towards the Buckey$ is more. Any other Big 10 team like Wisconsin, Penn St., and even little brother I will root for in any non conference game.
