July 29, 200818 yr Wow. The Angels were extremely tough before this, now this just makes them even more scary. :thumb: Mark Teixeira Garret Anderson Vladimir Guerrero Torii Hunter Gary Matthews, Jr. That's some offensive talent when their all on top of their game.
July 29, 200818 yr :thumb: Mark Teixeira Garret Anderson Vladimir Guerrero Torii Hunter Gary Matthews, Jr. Casey Kotchman That's some offensive talent when their all on top of their game. Guess you didn't read any of the thread...Kotchman was traded to the Braves in the deal for Teixeira.
July 30, 200818 yr For the most part yes..but those were blocked prospects."Blocked prospects?" Heck, some of those guys were a few years away at best. In the end, they gave up Saltalamacchia and some young talent for a year of Teixieira and the next 2-4 years of Kotchman ... I see that being a wash at best.
July 30, 200818 yr No...I wouldn't have..but that's the way baseball works...Braves got the better deal with Teixeira..Salty has struggled all year, and the only standout player in the deal is Elvis Andrus. But they made the trade for Teixeira expecting to win, injuries happened and pitching underperformed and they didn't win..Well coming into this year they were expected to compete but season ending injuries to John Smoltz and Tim Hudson and DL stints for Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Mark Kotsay, and Mike Hampton has grounded any chance the Braves had at competing. This was a good deal for the Braves any way you look at it..They got a young 1st baseman in Kotchman and will be saving money that they can use on a pitcher in the offseason.. Your assessment of 2007 is correct. As for this year ... gee, who didn't know that Chipper, Smoltz, Kotsay and Hampton were injury risks? Is that a nice view of the world through Braves-issued glasses?

Is that a nice view of the world through Braves-issued glasses? Wow, I never said Hampton wasn't an injury risk so you might want to try reading again..I never said Chipper wasn't as well...Saying John Smoltz was an injury risk coming into the season is a joke and not a very good one.

"BLOCKED PROSPECTS", thanks for repeating what I said...Some of those guys??? There was 5 players, and Salty was major league ready, he was blocked by McCann...Andrus it didn't matter because he was blocked by Escobar. And Jones could have probably pitched but he wasn't a focus point of the trade. Point of the matter is the Rangers are now discussing trading Salty and I doubt they get the return from Salty that the Braves got from Teixeira so I would doubt the initial trade was a "wash".
July 30, 200818 yr GREAT MOVE. They have the money to resign him in the offseason, he is one of the best all around baseball players in the game if not the best (does it all, hits on both sides of the plate, fields great, and has some pop), they have the best rotation in all of baseball, the best closer, a SOLID bull pen, and now add Tex to Vlad and Hunter and the best record in baseball you have the recipe for GREAT success.

Couldn't of said it any better then that.:thumb:
July 30, 200818 yr The Braves needed to get rid of Tex since they stood no chance at re-signing him after this season. Good move for both teams.
July 30, 200818 yr Author The Braves needed to get rid of Tex since they stood no chance at re-signing him after this season. Good move for both teams. Atlanta would have landed two 1st round picks if they didn't move Tex. Kotchman better be REALLY good in ATL...
July 30, 200818 yr :thumb: Mark Teixeira Garret Anderson Vladimir Guerrero Torii Hunter Gary Matthews, Jr. That's some offensive talent when their all on top of their game. That's a pretty insane lineup. That's without mentioning Kotchman, and Figgins. Wow.
