Exactly what I said; 2 field players and 2 pitchers. To list players with 4 or more years as inexperienced is ludicrous. The Reds are NOT a "young team". It's not lack of experience, it's lack of ability. Tired of the excuses.

I don't think I indicated young, your word and not mine. I said inexperienced at the MLB level. You combine that, with how long these players have been playing, plus many haven't started much until joining the Reds.

 

As for excuses, you obviously haven't followed my posts regarding the Reds, since I've been very clear, what has been wrong with the Reds for years.

 

Take the players I listed, which don't have much MLB experience, as I stated but they play a key role for the Reds.

Brandon Phillips has played a few years now, and maybe lack of experience is the wrong term to use. He does need to grow up though. If he wants to be the leader of this team he needs to start acting like it. When I watch games on tv, everytime he hits a ground ball or pop up, he curses loud enough for a speaker to pick it up. I'm all for people getting upset about getting out, but thats just not necessary and lack of maturity if you ask me.

 

I think he will evolve into that leader. The youngsters need the positive leadership that is lacking right now.:thumb:

I can agree. There are a couple you listed that I don't think will get any better. ie; Bako and Keppinger. Again these are up the middle guys.

All the talent in the world, but right now he thinks he's better than he actually is. No way this Team needs a leader who doesn't run balls out, and acts like a baby everytime he pops one up. He is not a slow runner, but yet leads the Team every year in GIDP. Why, because he gets mad he hit it right at someone. If he would run HARD out of the box, I don't believe those dp's would be so high.

 

And yes, I know he's one of the best defensive INF in the game.

Agreed and key positions, for any successful Baseball program, start with the middle.

 

You must be solid defensively up the middle, as you stated and production offensively from C and CF, is a must. Teams can be successful, with a SS that doesn't hit for average, power but still have a good OBP. Phillips has a lot of upside and I believe, can be an All-Star.

If so, you should be OK with him. Dusty has shown many of the same tendencies Cubs fans like myself were pointing out over the winter.

I thought so in the beginning of the season. Now I don't. Look who he had to turn to off the bench last night. A. Phillips, Javy, CP, Ross, and Cabrerra. Probably one of the worst benches in baseball. Is that Dusty's fault. Is the lack of hitting Dusty's fault, or do you maybe blame the hitting coach? Now lack of execution in the field, ie; Cuetto not backing up home last night, yeah that's on Dusty. This team is not very good.

Success starts at the top. Your attitude is a reflection of the manager, IMO. To hold Dusty blameless is just not paying attention.

Not holding him blameless. If you have followed my posts, I do think he has mismanaged in certain areas. You have to admit though, the cards he is playing with right now don't add up to a winning hand.

I agree with you and have read all your posts. Just don't think that he has the team to manage without some fire. Too young, not enough leadership from the veteran players and that has to come from somewhere. I think Dusty is a poor manager.

He seems to think he's showing respect. I think it shows weakness. Dusty will be here next year, Jr won't. Let's see what happens then. As far as all of the boneheaded plays on the field, it would be nice to see someone's butt wind up on the bench for failing to carryout plays that are taught in Little League. These are Dusty's failings. The lack of talent is not. The fact the starters rarely throw past 5 innings should be on Pole. The 3rd lowest batting avg in the majors is on Jacoby. The poor personel is somewhat injury driven, but falls on the front office. Lot of people have a hand in what is wrong with this team.
