July 25, 200818 yr WVU returns White, Devine and the entire O Line. They are fully equipped to score 40 a game on the ground alone. USF is a pretty clear cut favorite for me. I have UC 3rd, but they could easily be as low as 6th if the QB situation doesn't pan out. McCoy is the best player in the conference and if Stull is healthy for Pitt they are dangerous. I'm not sold on Rutgers or UConn, but at this time UL is still a ways behind them...Bold statement right there. At this point Pat White has earned that title.

I haven't really studied up on Rutgers football, but it seems to me that their defense has been really good the past few years. Did they lose a lot on D? I know Rice is gone, what about the OL, is their somebody waiting to step in for Rice that will do a decent job. I know that Teel is back with a pair of 1,000 yard WR. That ought to keep the defense honest enough to have some success running the ball even without Rice.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Biggest Strengths: The cornerstone of the Scarlet Knights rise to respectability has been strong defense, and that should continue in 08. 8 starters return on a unit that finished 17th in the nation in total defense a year ago. The three starters lost took a lot of leadership with them, but there are plenty of options to fill those holes. On the defensive line SR Jamaal Westerman steps in to the spotlight after an 8 sack season a year ago. With 20 career sacks, he will be a force to reckon with in opponents backfield. Two time All Big East selection FS Courtney Greene returns for his senior season, and will anchor the unit on the back end. Biggest Weaknesses: Not only did Rutgers lose Heisman candidate Ray Rice to the Baltimore Ravens, they also have to replace three starters on the offensive line that opened the holes for a 2,000 yard season. Replacing a group that produced the first 3,000 yard passer, 2,000 yard rusher and two 1,000 yard receivers in NCAA history is not going to be easy, and there isn't much experience ready to step in. JR Kevin Haslam is the only candidate with multiple starts on his resume and several red shirt freshman are also in the mix. Why They're Picked Where They Are: Even though his statistics look good on the surface, Mike Teel has some flaws that could be exposed with a retooled line. His 58% completion rate and 13 interceptions show a propensity for inconsistency, and that was with opponents doing all they could to stop Rice. Teel will be the focus of the Scarlet Knights attack and he's got a lot to prove in his new role. The defense will keep them in most games, but with the game in the balance can Teel pull it out? From what I've seen so far, I'm not sold. To Win The Big East They Must: Find a suitable replacement for Rice and the horses up front to open room to run. If the offense can remain a balanced attack, and the defense holds to form Rutgers will be in the mix for a league title.
