One thing's for sure: kudos to Mueller for going out of his way to ensure that on a fairly consistent basis (i.e. yearly) his team plays games against "better" squads... I suspect that if he wanted to, Dale could set up some schedules that would ensure no worse than a 9-1 regular-season record every year (the one game in doubt being CCH).

 

The fact that this year HHS is playing defending 4A state champ LexCath, defending 3A state champ Central, 6A Ryle, 6A Madison Central and Cincy powerhouse Colerain speaks volumes about Dale and HHS.

Really a strange conversation. HHS 3A school plays up 2 classes to 5A. Beats everyone on the schedule including state power CovCath at their place and in the playoffs,3A state champ at their place, 4A state champs at their place, a talented Bowling Green team in the State Championship game and a star laden Trotwood team in a big time event. And now we have some chastising the coach? How many 5A teams in Ky play the schedule HHS plays? CovCath comes to mind. I'm sort of confused why anyone would have issues with the Bluebirds program:confused:

I understand individuals will ALWAYS have things to complain about but is this conversation (thread) really happening? HHS is a Ky powerhouse year in and year out.....6 TITLES. Dale needs and should be appreciated by all because IT COULD BE WORSE. Im not a big HHS fan but I know great coaching and can appreciate what Dale has done with this program.....

Basically, to be honest, if Dale doesn't beat teams that are better than him, it has to at least be credited that it is because of the program he has in place that grooms these kids to be great football players (from a very young age) and his system (on O and D), and some credit has to be given there. Ft. Thomas kids aren't just naturally better than everyone else- what Dale has done to that town and team are an amazing thing in themself.

I think any good program wins against better teams on occasion. Highlands has gotten where they are by playing very tough competition and beating them. There is no doubt they are a top-notch program.

 

Hey when they beat Bell Co. at Bell High recently I thought Bell Co. was the better team. :DAnd if you look at stats (which I know there is a lot more to the game than that) other than the final score, you would have thought Bell won easily.

With a lot of the teams Dale has matched Highlands against over the years I don't see how anyone can complain, he may have lost some by a larger margin at times, but I can guarantee even in those games he had those kids believing they could pull it out. He's a great motivator and knows how to make these kids believe in themselves. There have been times I've disagreed with him, even times he hacked me off, but in the end I have to always give him his due. He certainly made my son a better player while he was at Highlands and gave him a wonderful opportunity, for that I will always be thankful. I guess what I'm saying is I don't care if the Birds win some of those games as much as I care about how well he makes these kids believe in and better themselves, these are intangibles that will be life lasting.
