Tex- .284, 187 hr, 624 rbi, .904 ops, 28 yrs old Youk-career .286, 52hr, 262 rbi, 840 ops, 29 yrs old Plus Youk is having a career year. He has never came close to the production he is having this year, who knows if it is legit. You know what you are getting with Tex. Now defense is a different story, Youk is a better defender because he is more versatile. However, Tex does have more gold gloves. I still consider this a big offensive upgrade and a near wash on defense. Especially when they are both on 1st. Career numbers don't tell the whole story. Unless he is injured and doesn't play the rest of the year 2008 will be the 3rd consecutive year that his HRs, RBIs and (probably) batting average have increased so he is still improving. He is also a well above average defender at 3rd base and can play either of the corner outfield positions and hit anywhere in the batting order. Plus the Red Sox have control of Youkilis until 2011 while they'd either have to offer Teixeira a huge extension or let him walk at the end of the season. That doesn't even take into account that the Braves want Hansen in the deal. Hansen doesn't have the greatest numbers this season but he is only 24, throws in the mid to high 90s and should only get better. No way I'd make that trade.
July 14, 200818 yr That couldn't be further from the truth. I'm assuming you say that because of his scuffle with Manny and that was way overblown. Youk is one of the most popular and respected players in the Boston clubhouse. The players love him because of his intensity and his willingness to hit play anywhere on the field to help the team or move anywhere in the order if necessary. He even tried to play the day after taking that throw to the eye when the team made him go to the doctor instead. If the only clubhouse problem the Red Sox have to worry about is Youkilis, they've got nothing to worry about at all. :thumb: Wow!!! Are you sure you're talking about the same player? I've never hear anything but postive things about Youkilis. I'm not saying this because of what's been shown, or said, in the media. I'm just going by what has been said by former teammates. He's the type that will leave it all out on the field, but his arrogance and sometimes "me first" personality rubs people the wrong way.

I guess I should've read through the complete thread before posting above. However, at least my comment now has some support.

Since they are both young players, isn't looking back three years basically looking at a big piece of their career numbers. I will be willing to bet that Tex had better numbers when they hang them up too. The $$$/contracts are the biggest difference. The offensive production isn't close IMHO. Plus Tex is an above average infielder, hence the two gold gloves. If I am not mistaken, Youk won the GG last year. The first year Tex was not in the American League. You can't go wrong either way, and I agree with you. I would not do the deal with the pitching prospect involved.
July 14, 200818 yr Author Braves won't deal Tex unless they get something very good in return. They are looking for offense to replace him and a young pitching prospect. If they can't find a suitor then they keep him and make a run at the playoffs and try and re-sign him in the offseason.

They are cheap, even when they were spending a a lot, they would go the extra money needed to win a WS. Some years they were one hitter or closer away from winning it all.

Actually you're off base on this one...See when the Braves were sold to Liberty Media the owners told the Braves organization and Frank Wren that they would increase payroll if it meant helping the Braves compete to win a World Series. Now with that in mind you may wonder why don't the Braves just buy everyone, well that's not how they play and it doesn't fit their style and clubhouse philosophy... I look for the Braves to offer him a big contract if they keep him, it just may not big the one he is looking for.

I don't need to look it up..I can bet you that Hudson is not traded, and I can guarantee you that they are not shopping him. Tex, on the other hand, could be traded but if he is it'll be on July 31st and probably no sooner.

One of my friends who played ball in Ohio and his best friend was a catcher at UC said that Youkillis was arrogant as well, very cocky. He said they would be out and people would mess with him, he would say, "you are out, you won't see any of my money".

I think they'll continue to talk but I don't think the Red Sox will give up the pitching prospects the Braves want. Especially since Ortiz seems ready to go after a rehab assignment--he says he feels great and only needs to face live pitching. I could see the Red Sox having interest in Teixeira but I think it will be after the season when they can sign him as a free agent. The Braves won't match them and it won't cost them any prospects, that would give them the option of not bringing Manny back or asking for a reduced price. I just don't see the upside to trading Youk and a pitcher (or two from what I'm hearing the Braves are asking) for a marginal offensive upgrade for half a season.
