Trade Deadline Rumors/Updates

I've always defended Bonds but this statement by his agent, is ludicrous. He would certainly generate an increase in season tickets but his knees, don't allow him to be average in the field any more.

The only chance I see, is a DH role in the AL. As for the "conspiracy", well either did little to help their public persona, over the last several years. As some owners, care about the bottom line, others care more about winning championships, at all cost. I think no one acquiring Bonds, speaks volumes about him.

Bonds is done simple as that. Owners are steering away from the steroid perception and starting fresh. How does anyone know that he'll produce? He's not faced live pitching in almost a year. If he does sign with a team I'll be surprised.

Several readers have written in regarding a rumor from ESPN's Peter Gammons during last night's broadcast. Reportedly Gammons said the Braves offered Mark Teixeira to the Red Sox for Kevin Youkilis and Craig Hansen, but the Sox declined.

Given Youk's superior numbers and team control through 2010, hanging on to him makes sense. But it is interesting to see that the Braves might be shopping Teixeira already.

It's what happens when you have a Boras client not playing in a major market. Word is they are asking $22 million a year.

^ Yep that's what his is asking for him..

Wow!!! Are you sure you're talking about the same player? I've never hear anything but postive things about Youkilis.

Pretty sure they were speaking of Barry Bonds, not Youk.

I am not sure of the rules but Cutler says that Dunn leaves as FA at the end of the season and you get two first round picks.

Isn't that better than "anything?"

That will only apply if the Reds offer him arbitration and he declines. It would be interesting to see what his market value is if the Reds choose to offer Dunn arbitration, and he accepts.

I have a buddy that played with Youk in Pawtucket, he said he's as arrogant as they come. He'll let you know how good he is...

It created problems there...

Sounds a lot like Pete Rose. I don't recall him being labeled a clubhouse cancer during his playing days.

I don't think I would go as far as calling him a 'cancer' at this point. Just stating what I know. I think the big problem is, most of those guys are that arrogant and butt heads all time...

My buddy is as humble as it gets so they didn't get along...

I can see it being a problem at the AAA level, but at the major league level I would think that having players like Ramirez, Ortiz, and Varitek in the clubhouse helps a lot in keeping egos in check.

Probably true, which is why Youk may cause some problems...

For example, the Manny/Youk incident. While over something else, you would think that it wasn't JUST about being ticked off because he gets out...

Don't know though...

Didn't Manny and Youk get into a few weeks ago because the other players, aside from Youk, were tired of his attitude. I remember seeing the story, they were talking about how most of the people in the clubhouse got tired of his whining etc. after he made and out...

As for the Tex vs. Youk trade. Give me Tex, look up the numbers. It isn't even close to me.

Looks pretty close to me.

I don't see that happening. Teixeira is not really an upgrade over Youkilis. Tex is hitting .275 with 17 Homeruns and 67 RBIs with a .381 OBA. Youkilis is hitting .319 with 14 Homeruns and 57 RBIs and .384 OBA. There's only a 1 year age difference and Youkilis is a Gold Glove Firstbaseman. I could see the Red Sox interest in Teixeira but only as a replacement for Ortiz if he can't come back, I don't think they would trade Youkilis to get him.
Looks pretty close to me.

Look at the career numbers, and Tex is younger...

Tex- .284, 187 hr, 624 rbi, .904 ops, 28 yrs old

Youk-career .286, 52hr, 262 rbi, 840 ops, 29 yrs old

Plus Youk is having a career year. He has never came close to the production he is having this year, who knows if it is legit. You know what you are getting with Tex.

Now defense is a different story, Youk is a better defender because he is more versatile. However, Tex does have more gold gloves. I still consider this a big offensive upgrade and a near wash on defense. Especially when they are both on 1st.
