No offense intended to a great Simon Kenton team that won the 8th Region this past March, but I thought Anderson County gave away the 8th title game last year, and I really like their chances this year. SK will be there again, but after those two, it's wide-open. A possible rematch in the offing?

 

Oldham had a ridiculously talented sophomore class last year, and although the Lady Colonels will definitely look different without their twin towers of Huckvale and Melton, they may actually be a better team. Last year, they seemed to have identity problems at times, unsure if they were a running team that had tall players or a power team that could run... Beaudrie will be one of the region's best players in 08-09... Larry Just looks to be a great selection as the new coach of OC.

 

If Shelby gets Slaughter back, watch out! Shelby will also be wanting to go out on top as this is Coach Zimmerman's last year, apparently, as she is the new AD there and SCHS doesn't want the AD serving as coach...

 

I was impressed with Carroll's scrappiness last year in the region when Girdy got three quick fouls very early in a game and had to leave...the Lady Panthers will have a say in what happens in the 8th... Coach Mefford always finds a way to compete.

 

Like one of the earlier posters said, I think the newcomers - transfers and youngsters moving up to varsity - may well hold the key to the 8th Region this year!

I'm not underestimating Coaches Miller and Trame, both are very good coaches. But they can't teach experience and maturity. The Ladycats are going to be extremely young and inexperienced. There's alot of talent but it's going to take some time for them to mature.

If they can't play, then they can't play - senior or not. Why keep a senior that's not any better than the young players that you have?

I would agree with you but, this senior made the all tournament team for districts her sophmore year, if you ask me that tells you they can play.

How was her junior season? How is her work ethic and attitude? It seems strange to cut the kind of player you described but there must be more to this.

Well, as you are aware, Rosen benched the older girls last year to play younger, no don't get me wrong the young girls were very skilled, but still. Her work ethic was great and she had a very succesful JV season last year. This summer during team camp she showed great leadership on the court, and was succesful at the point gaurd position. Trust me, everyone was very surprised by the coaches decision to cut her.

Not everyone. I think what Coach Rosen did last year was to play the players that gave her the best opportunity to win. Having a very successful season as a junior on the JV team isn't that big of a deal. If you're a junior playing JV when the varsity team isn't very good, that should explain a lot. Basketball coaches are not running entitlement programs. That's the problem with today's society, everyone feels like they are owed something. Just because you're a senior doesn't mean you should automatically make the team.

I agree with you, but as a said before this senior had talent. About Rosen, your entitled to your opinoin, but I along with alot of other people that witnessed first hand what Rosen did, feel like that she was simply a waste of time. Like I also said before, the younger players were very talented, but you and I both know that she didn't give the older players a chance. Plain and simple.

The good thing is....last season is over. It's time to move on and be thankful that Walton has two excellent girls coaches. :thumb:

Even though I may not agree with the decision to cut that senior, I must say I do agree with you. Trame and Miller are the best things that have happened to the girls program in a while.

Figgins twins healthy (both Sr's) the two strong Jr's stepping in (Wainscott and Brown) and Sr's Smith / Tolliver, on paper they are stronger than last season. --- It will be fun. -- That is a great 6. It is all about playing to potential!

Not sure if you are thinking more about their freshman class which really came through for them in the district championship last year against South Oldham- only one soph comes to mind from that game(Lape), others were freshman, ....just curious who you are thinking of?

 

I would agree that Larry Just is a fine coach - it will intersting to see how the girls adjust to his style and if they will be effective or if the parents will make things difficult. Sometimes that first year is the hardest for a new coach.
