July 2, 200818 yr For those who feel we cannot reach a deep bunker in Iran, you really have no idea what our Air Force and Special Ops can do. If we know exactly where the deep bunkers are and we have air superiority to fly the type of aircraft required to drop a bomb suitable for deep and hardened targets, we would probably be successful. But we may not know exactly where all of the targets are and the most powerful deep penetration weapons we have are dropped out of the back of C-130's and C-17's--not exactly fast or stealthy attack aircraft with long standoff capability. And the Iranians reportedly have a pretty strong anti-aircraft missile defense system. The task of knocking out multiple deep hardened and possibly heavily defended targets in Iran would be very difficult and risky.

If Iran attacks us, that will be two Arab nations in the recent past that have attacked us on our soil. What I assume his original point was, is that if this were to occur the majority of Americans will want us to go after the entire Arab world, as a retaliation for past attacks and a pre-emptive(sp?) measure against future attacks....At least that's the way I understood it.

Well, I guess technically not a country, many blame the 9/11 attacks on Afghanistan... How many of the alleged 9/11 hijackers were Afhgans? Weren't several of them from Saudi Arabia? Are we gonna bomb them or the UAE? Not likely.

Recent history says that we can make any link we want to and the American public will buy into it. So, yeah...it's amazing...IF Iran attacked us, "we" would be all for bombing all of those Muslim countries who DIDN'T attack us when Iran did and DIDN'T attack us when Al Queda did. That, to me, is the scariest thing I have heard in a long time.

So, yeah...it's amazing...IF Iran attacked us, "we" would be all for bombing all of those Muslim countries who DIDN'T attack us when Iran did and DIDN'T attack us when Al Queda did. That, to me, is the scariest thing I have heard in a long time. If any of the terrorist groups funded by Iran successfully launches a large scale terrorist attack on American soil, our government will have no choice but to attack their state sponsor, Iran. If the perpetrators can not be linked to a specific government, then both Syria and Iran would probably bear the brunt of the response anyway. It is sad to say, but Saudi Arabia's oil production would innoculate it to some extent from a retaliatory attack unless the link was very direct, publicly known, and neither Syria nor Iran could be blamed instead. IMO, this is true regardless of whether a Republican or a Democrat is in the White House.
