June 26, 200818 yr I, for one, believe that speculation has little to do with higher fuel prices. It certainly isnt all supply and demand. All OPEC countries say there is plenty of crude. When is the last time anyone went to a gas station and were not able to get gas? Libya annoucned today they might cut crude production because the market is over supplied. Supply and demand would have it at 70 dollars, which is still very high, but anything over that is all speculation. I wish I could open this article and read it but it says "if congress" then I started watching the predraft again.
June 26, 200818 yr Until we (society, Americans, Chinese, whomever) quit buying at inflated prices, prices will not fall. As everyone seems to be in love with their cars, and frankly the concern for alternatives is minimal, at best, I don't see gas prices falling in any significant way.

Demand is well down in the states.. Toyota cant keep up with Hybrids. China pays 2.85 for gas we will be paying 4.10 tomorrow. Any reductions by us is off set abroad it seems. The recession will not end till gas is below 3.00 dollars.

The problem anymore RM is that if we are staying in more, and are spending more on gas vs consumer goods.. our economy is going to stay in the toilet. If gas fell to two dollars our economy would jolt like a chest hit by an AED. IMO, demand is down, but not significantly enough to impact prices. There's no way that we can significantly impact world demand. We also will still pay the price, regardless of the price. I honestly feel that even though the rest of the economy may be taking a hit because of the gas prices, that will not cause the prices to fall either. We've become conditioned to pay higher prices, and to think we could do anything that would cause them to drop to half what we're paying now is a pipe-dream.

I was in NYC over the weekend and their mass transit was great. 2.00 bus ride or subway ride. And the buses are Hybrid/electric. Our mass transit up north is not great.. I don't know how it is in Louisville. Our country is spread out and we were caught off guard by this. Its gonna take 2-5 years to feel the impact of consumption. A lot of people can't afford to spend 23K for the Prius.. hopefully, cheaper hybrids evolve.. there still very new.

A lot of people can't afford to spend 23K for the Prius.. hopefully, cheaper hybrids evolve.. there still very new. Unfortunately, Louisville doesn't have the greatest mass transit system. However, if one is willing to weather a few inconveniences, a little longer time in the trip home from work, for instance, it is definitely doable. And, I've noticed more and more people riding the busses I ride. I used to ride a 7:30 bus to get to work @ 8. It became very crowded, so I backed up and started riding the bus @ 7, getting to work a little earlier, which isn't a bad thing. Then the 6:30 bus....which still got me to work @ 7. Now I primarily ride the 6:08 bus, which gets me to work @ 6:30. Now, that bus is increasingly more crowded. So, I'm thinking of starting to ride the 5:45, so I'll get to work by 6-ish.... I'm willing to do just about anything to not have to stand on the bus. :lol: Seriously...I'm not joking about the crowding. More and more people, business people, are beginning to ride the busses. Again, it's not the same as in NYC or Chicago, but it's definitely not as hard or as inconvenient as most people assume.

It may just be that they are all talk and no action, as it would not happen. I would like to see Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi actually do something, all they do is blow hot air.

The recession will not end till gas is below 3.00 dollars. We are going throught tough times, nobody would argue that, but technically we are not in a recession. A recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth. We haven't seen the first yet, but it might be coming.
